Strategic Space Systems Division (SSSD) is an industry-leading provider of prime satellite and payload capabilities and directed energy and electronics solutions for national security, military, and civil customers. This position will be in Redondo Beach, California.
Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electro-mechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies, and components. Performs a variety of tasks ranging from electronic and/or mechanical assemblies and subassemblies. Perform a variety of tasks including mechanical assembly, torch brazing, tube bending, orbital welding, precision soldering, harness routing, bonding, electrical test using test procedures and other comparable tasks using tools such as solder irons, torque wrenches, machine tools, multimeters. Must be able to work with various chemicals and solvents. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Working from written instructions that provide methods and sequence of assembly operations. Using assembly drawings and diagrams. Recommend modifications to components or procedures to promote efficiency and optimize production flow. Performs a variety of duties assisting mechanical engineers in the development of mechanical and electromechanical engineering designs, tests, fabrications, modifications, assemblies and components. Drafts detailed drawings for fabrication. Devices, fabricates, and assembles new or modified mechanical components or assemblies. Sets up and tests complete prototype units and subassemblies under operational conditions. Analyzes data and recommends modifications to components or test procedure to meet desired specifications.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Basic Qualifications:
Mechanical Technician 2: High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience.
Mechanical Technician 3: High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience.
• High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (G.E.D) required.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience performing mechanical assembly.
• Knowledge and experience with the use of a variety of hand tools and mechanical equipment
• Ability to read, interpret, and execute work to mechanical assembly drawings, wire lists and BOM's.
• Experience working from one or more of the following: blueprints, schematics or engineering related drawings including work instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience using common hand tools and calibrated tools: Torque Wrenches, Heat Guns, Crimp Tools, Soldering Irons, Thermal Wire Stripers, Microscopes, Thermal Chambers/Ovens, etc.
• Experience with mechanical assembly and test integration.
• Experience working with Helium gas, unit bakeout, pressure proof, and Helium leak test
• Experience with torch braze, tube bending, and orbital welding.
• Experience working in a 10K cleanroom environment.
• Solumina proficiency desired.
• Have common knowledge of precision type assembly work.
• Work independently with minimal direction.
• Strong communication skills and able to work in diverse teams of design engineers, manufacturing engineers and technicians
• Demonstrated ability to perform precision assembly on spacecraft hardware.
• Demonstrated ability to read and perform assembly to complex engineering drawings.
• Demonstrated ability to perform bonding operations on spacecraft hardware.
Salary Range: $53,000 - $88,300
Salary Range 2: $62,900 - $104,900
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
