Primary Responsibility

Under the direction of the Budget/Finance Director, the Senior Budget/Financial Analyst provides technical expertise in developing and preparing the annual college budget, in developing financial models to assist in monitoring and analyzing the financial position of the college throughout the year and supporting the operations of the Accounting Department. They will serve as a contact for internal and external parties regarding collegewide budget, general ledger, financial and some software questions.

Pre-requisites for Position (Qualifications Standards)

Education and experience sufficient for the rigors of the position. Examples may include a bachelor’s degree and five years’ related experience, or equivalent education and experience that will provide the necessary knowledge, skill and abilities to perform the functions of the position.

Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or a related field preferred. Master’s degree preferred.

Special Skills or abilities related to position:  in-depth understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); advanced experience with Microsoft products – Excel in particular; knowledge of financial modeling tools; knowledge of software programs such as Power BI a plus. SQL knowledge a plus.

Ability to: perform accurate and complex calculations; organize and prioritize workload, manage multiple projects and meet deadlines; utilize automated computer programs and prepare financial reports and spreadsheets; exercise sound judgment in dealing with sensitive financial data, establish facts and take appropriate corrective action; stay current with accounting regulations/laws; excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, and advanced skills with financial software and tools.

Hiring range = $87,552.12 - $97,280.13 annual salary depending upon a combination of education and experience. Benefits include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Pet insurance, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, annual & sick time, mental health resources, healthy lifestyle benefits, affordable transitional housing may be available to the successful candidate based on eligibility and availability, relocation if applicable. CMC utilizes a wage progression compensation model that accounts for a candidate’s skill and experience. Although a salary range is listed, salary will be set commensurate with the successful candidate’s qualifications and in compliance with the Equal Pay for Equal Work Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

Essential Duties

  • Conducts financial analysis and advises administration and staff regarding available options and budgetary implications.

  • Develops financial models for forecasting and analyzing budget and actual expenditures based on cost per FTE, cost per program, new program costs, etc.

  • Provides technical financial assistance to internal constituents.

  • Controls, maintains and reconciles general ledger, budget, and finalizes year end procedures.

  • Coordinates and finalizes the year-end close of the financial system.

  • Monitors accounts and expenditures and reports on progress against budget and comparisons to prior years.

  • Monitors part-time and full-time salary and benefit expenditures and analyzes variances.

  • Reconciles salary pools and budgets providing additional internal controls for payroll.

  • Takes initiative and anticipates the needs of administration and Board of Trustees.

  • Forecasts financial trends. Researches and presents proposals for addressing opportunities to administration.

  • Develops budget manager training to be provided on-line and in person.

  • Compiles data and prepares internal and external reporting such as to the Board of Trustees, IPEDS, and the State of Colorado Budget Data Book.

  • Serves as the Region Costing Manager within the Workday system to ensure budgetary and procedural compliance. Approves transactions for Central Services and Collegewide regions.

  • Utilizes financial models for comparison analysis of budget expenditures and revenues.

  • Assists in developing, preparing, and presenting the College’s annual budget.

  • Monitors and evaluates college financial regulatory requirements.

  • Develops financial forecasting and analysis tools for use in monitoring the financial position of the college.

  • Cash management for financial aid and reconciliation of financial aid expenses with financial aid department student records.

  • Monitors and reconciles accounts and expenditures for the audit function. Prepares a variety of audit work schedules and communicates directly with auditors on topics including accruals, reversals, deferrals, prepaids, and receivables/payables. Assists with internal audit projects and recommends changes for efficiency.

  • Serves as back-up to other accounting department functions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervision Received

This position reports to a designated administrator.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position may serve as a lead in projects or in areas of expertise.

Special Conditions of Employment

Successful completion of a background check including motor vehicles records report will be required. Incumbents in this position will adhere to all safety and compliance policies of Colorado Mountain College while performing all duties assigned. Travel, evening and weekends may be required at times.

Working Conditions 

This position requires constant sitting, occasional walking, standing and driving; occasional handling objects, pushing/pulling; frequent reaching with hands/arms, and use of finger movements; occasional lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects up to 50 lbs.  Constant written and oral communication and the ability to reason and analyze and perform calculations occasionally. Work is performed using a computer and standard office equipment daily and driving a vehicle occasionally.
