Full Job Description

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting with the operation of various types of motorized heavy construction, snow removal and landscaping equipment.

Education: High School or Vocational School Diploma or equivalency certificate required. Advanced training from an accredited technical or trade school is preferred but not required.

License and/or Certifications: Must possess a valid N.J. driver's license with a minimum CDL Class B endorsement. Class A endorsement preferred.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of light and heavy-duty construction equipment. Must have knowledge of the standard methods, practices, tools and safety practices of equipment.

Requirements: Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position and carry out oral and written instructions. Must be available for emergencies/job assignments on a 24-hour basis. Must be able to operate various equipment including, but not limited to, bulldozers, sweepers, backhoes, roll off trucks, and cranes in a skilled and safe manner over rough, icy, and unstable surfaces. Must be able to check, clean, service and make minor and emergency repairs to equipment. Must be knowledgeable in the use of the safety precautions that must be exercised while operating equipment.

Physical Demands: Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without a reasonable accommodation to ensure the health and safety of oneself or others is maintained. Must qualify for and possess the ability to perform entry into confined spaces while wearing proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as, but not limited to, canister and dust masks as well as SCBA (Self Contained Breathing Apparatus). Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of the arms, legs and the whole body such as climbing (including ladders), lifting up to 50 lbs., balancing, walking, stooping and handling heavy objects. Must be able to work in all weather extremes.

Working Conditions: Workers are employed in extreme weather conditions associated with rivers and streams, as well as in conditions associated with a wastewater treatment plant and sewer collection system. Will be required to work indoors and outdoors depending on the nature of the position.
