Job Summary

The System Engineer is responsible for implementing, configuring, and documenting the integration of various hardware and software components within a system or a larger system of systems, such as a rack-based system. As a liaison between external stakeholders (customers, clients, partners, or suppliers) and different internal teams, the System Engineer facilitates communication to ensure seamless collaboration among stakeholders. This includes adhering to customer requirements and delivering a functional and high-quality integrated system to Manufacturing.

This position requires a Bachelor's degree and reports to a manager. Work is generally collaborative in nature. Contributes to moderate to complex aspects of projects. Typically requires 4 or more years of related experience.

Essential functions

  • Hardware/System Selection: Assist the Sales Engineering team with hardware selection and qualification for new and refreshed products.
  • Technical Interface: Act as a liaison for maintaining relationships with external stakeholders, such as clients, partners, or suppliers. This may also involve serving as a point of contact between different internal departments or teams, promoting effective communication and information sharing. Common tasks include attending meetings, facilitating discussions, coordinating projects, managing relationships, and providing support in resolving issues or conflicts.
  • Build First Article: Configure, build, and document the First Article (FA) unit(s) based on the customer's provided documentation, software image, test scripts, and branding. Also, vet and validate the Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • System Verification and Validation Testing: Develop and execute test plans to validate the integrated system's performance and functionality, ensuring they meet the customer's requirements. Conduct system-level testing, which may include functional testing, regression testing, and performance testing.
  • NPI/FA Documentation: Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation of system integration activities, including configuration files, test plans, and test results. Record NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) and unit build times.
  • Branding: Work closely with the customer on branding requirements (logo, badge, decal, labels) and facilitate approvals for the branding designs.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Sales, Sales Operations, automation developers, project managers, and quality assurance teams, to coordinate integration efforts and resolve any conflicts or dependencies.
  • Production Automation: Collaborate closely with the system automation team to onboard all requirements, including system settings, configurations, controlled images, scripts, and any branding to be generated by the CCI automation system.
  • Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution: Identify, document, and resolve issues that arise during the integration process. Conduct root cause analysis and debugging to identify the source of problems and propose appropriate solutions. This includes interacting with the hardware vendor's technical support to promptly resolve issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and automation in system integration activities. Implement best practices and optimize integration procedures to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Deployment Support: Provide support during system deployment and installation activities. Collaborate with field engineers or deployment teams to ensure the successful deployment and integration of the system in the target environment.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay updated with the latest technologies, tools, and industry trends related to system integration. Continuously expand technical knowledge and skills to effectively address integration challenges.
  • Product Lifecycle Management: Assist in product lifecycle management, including analyzing the impact of regulatory requirements and compliance, and inspecting/evaluating alternate parts for Approve Vendor List (AVL) parts end-of-life (EOL) considerations. Initiate, submit, and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECR) and Engineering Change Orders (ECO) as required to maintain products during their lifecycles.
  • Work Instructions (WI): Develop comprehensive work instructions for production technicians to follow, and maintain any changes using revision controls.
  • Training: Conduct training sessions for production technicians to ensure they are well-versed in building a product using work instructions/procedures.
  • Release to Manufacturing (RTM): Thoroughly validate that system requirements are met and all required deliverables are in place and approved before releasing products to production.
  • Production Support: Provide support to the Production team in their daily activities when needed. This includes assisting with procedures, contacting customers for technical issues, and troubleshooting to find resolutions.
  • Technology Updates: Stay updated on new hardware technologies and offerings from manufacturers for ongoing product development.
