Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) - Neurobiology & Biophysics

University of Washington: Academic Personnel: School of Medicine: Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics

Location

Seattle, WA

Description

The Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics at the University of Washington invites applications for two full time, tenure-track Assistant Professor positions with an anticipated start date of September 2025. Assistant Professors (Tenure-Track) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. We welcome applications from individuals with research interests that complement and extend the department's current strength in the fields of neuroscience, physiology and biophysics. We are particularly excited about individuals with the potential to bridge research activities across scales and systems, and those that aim to establish a quantitative and mechanistic understanding of molecular, cellular, and nervous system function.

The Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics is built on the principles of innovation, integrity, and service. These principles are the foundation of our contributions to the State of Washington, the UW, the international science community, and the broader public. Our mission centers on three areas: advancing fundamental scientific and biomedical knowledge, training the next generation of scientists, and building a strong community invested in the success of every member of our department.

All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an independent research program and collaborate with members of the Department and other faculty within the University and affiliated institutions, to contribute to the teaching responsibilities of the department through existing or new courses, and to contribute to the department's commitment to service within the School of Medicine, the University of Washington, and the greater Seattle community.

Our department offers a highly collegial and collaborative culture, with diverse interdisciplinary research ties across campus. Additional infrastructure and expertise available to support the successful applicant include the Computational Neuroscience Center, the Washington National Primate Research Center, the Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, the Brotman-Baty Institute, the Nathan Shock Center for Aging, the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, and the Garvey Institute, in addition to regional opportunities to collaborate with the Allen Institute for Brain and Cell Science, Seattle Children's Research Institute, and a multitude of biotechnology companies.

The University of Washington, the School of Medicine, and the Department of Neurobiology and Biophysics are committed to the goal of diversifying our faculty ranks and promoting diversity and inclusivity among students, faculty, and staff. Applicants from diverse backgrounds are particularly encouraged to apply. This position will support our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and teach, mentor, and work with individuals from a wide spectrum of backgrounds.

The base salary range for an Assistant Professor tenure-track position will be $10,834 - $11,667 per month ($130,008 - $140,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Application Instructions

Application packages should include a curriculum vitae, a description of research accomplishments and plans, names of three references, a diversity and mentoring statement, and up to two papers or manuscripts as PDFs must be submitted electronically through Interfolio.

The Department of Neurobiology & Biophysics is committed to creating and sustaining an inclusive and equitable departmental climate that embraces the diversity of all individuals and allows trainees, staff and faculty to develop their full potential. An important part of our evaluation process will be the contributions candidates would make to fostering this climate within their laboratories and the department. Please describe (in no more than one page) how you would contribute to our effort, whether through background, past experiences and/or plans of action. We recognize that opportunities for past experiences in this area will differ among candidates and our evaluation will emphasize future plans. Diversity includes, but is not limited to, groups defined by race, nationality, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, language, religion, disability and/or health status, gender identity/expression, and socio-economic status.

Application Process

This institution is using Interfolio's Faculty Search to conduct this search. Applicants to this position receive a free Dossier account and can send all application materials, including confidential letters of recommendation, free of charge.
