The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) is accepting applications for a full-time tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Candidates must have the ability to teach graduate-level courses, conduct research, and supervise graduate-student research in the field of electromagnetics (EM), including antennas, propagation, microwave circuits, radar, electronic warfare (EW), radar cross section (RCS) engineering, electro-optics (EO) and related areas. The ECE department has existing radar and microwave laboratories to support both research and teaching. Research start-up funding is available to new tenure-track faculty for the first two years to assist new faculty in developing state-of-the-art research programs and to facilitate future research endeavors in the following years.

The candidate must possess an earned PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or a related field, and must be able to qualify for a US DoD security clearance. Experience with military radar and/or EW systems, and prior academic/industrial/military experience, is desired. The publication/patent record of a candidate will also be taken into consideration.

Primary duties include:

  • Teaching of graduate-level and undergraduate courses in electromagnetics, radar, electronic warfare, and related areas; Development of research programs in one or more of the subject areas of antennas, propagation, radio frequency (RF) microwave, radar, EW, RCS engineering, EO, and related applications; Writing of engineering/scientific papers to publish research results; Development of curriculum and courses; Advising and supervising graduate-student researchers pursuing Masters and/or PhD degrees.

Minimum Qualifications include:

  • An earned PhD in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, or another related field; Excellent ability or aptitude for teaching; Demonstrated ability to write scientific/engineering research papers; An ability to obtain reimbursable funding to support facilities and research. All levels: Must currently hold or be eligible for a U.S. Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industrial, academic, or military experience in DoD-related systems relating to EM scattering and propagation, radar, EW, antennas, RF/microwave circuits, and/or EO/IR is desirable.

NPS is a fully accredited graduate school with students from all branches of the U.S. armed services, as well as foreign military officers. U.S. citizenship is required and salary is competitive. Monterey is a short drive south from the Silicon Valley and San Francisco Bay area and is ideally situated along the spectacular central California coast.
