Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, one of the world’s leading global law firms with offices in strategic hubs of commerce, law, and government across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, is seeking an AI Architect to design, develop, and optimize AI solutions that enhance the firm’s legal services and internal operations. Reporting to the Director of AI, the ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in AI systems architecture and will play a key role in ensuring the successful implementation of AI technologies across the firm.
This position will reside in either our Chicago, Philadelphia or San Francisco office with a hybrid in-office/remote working schedule.
Responsibilities
- AI Systems Design: Architect scalable, secure, and high-performance AI solutions tailored to the firm’s needs, including machine learning models, natural language processing tools, and automation systems.
- Infrastructure Development: Build and maintain the technical infrastructure required for the deployment of AI technologies, ensuring integration with existing legal and business systems.
- Solution Optimization: Continuously evaluate and optimize AI systems for performance, accuracy, and scalability to meet the evolving needs of the firm.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work closely with legal teams, data scientists, IT, and other departments to understand business needs and translate them into technical requirements for AI projects.
- Data Strategy and Architecture: Develop robust data pipelines and architecture to support AI initiatives, ensuring efficient data flow, quality, and security.
- AI Model Deployment: Oversee the deployment of AI models, ensuring they are well-integrated, monitored, and adjusted as necessary to achieve desired outcomes.
- AI Tool Integration: Identify, implement, and integrate third-party AI tools and platforms that can enhance legal operations, improve client services, and streamline internal workflows.
- Security and Compliance: Ensure AI solutions comply with legal standards, data privacy regulations, and firm-specific security protocols.
- Technology Evaluation: Continuously assess emerging AI technologies, recommending tools and techniques that will keep the firm at the forefront of AI advancements in the legal industry.
- Documentation and Training: Maintain thorough documentation of AI systems architecture and provide technical training and support to relevant stakeholders.
Experience and Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, AI, data science, engineering, or a related field, with a strong focus on AI architecture and systems design.
- Professional Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in AI architecture, data science, or software development, with a proven track record of designing and deploying AI solutions.
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in AI technologies, including machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), natural language processing (NLP), computer vision, and automation tools.
- Systems Architecture: Strong understanding of distributed systems, cloud computing, and data architecture, with experience designing systems that support large-scale AI applications.
- Programming Skills: Advanced programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or C++, with experience in developing AI models and integrating them into business processes.
- Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud-based AI solutions (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and managing AI/ML infrastructure in cloud environments.
- Data Management: Expertise in data management, data engineering, and data security practices to support AI initiatives, including experience with big data platforms and technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark).
- AI Model Deployment: Experience deploying and managing AI models in production environments, including version control, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Collaboration Skills: Strong ability to work cross-functionally, translating business needs into technical specifications and delivering solutions that align with strategic objectives.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose technical issues, troubleshoot, and optimize AI systems.
- Security Focus: Knowledge of data privacy laws and security best practices, ensuring AI systems comply with legal and regulatory standards.
- Innovation-Driven: Passion for staying current with the latest developments in AI technologies and finding creative solutions to business challenges.

For positions in San Francisco, CA, the salary range for this job posting is:
$124,200.00 - $198,600.00.The base salary or hourly wage range for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors. The final salary or hourly wages offered may be outside of this range based on other reasons and individual circumstances. Additionally, salary or hourly wages may be only part of the total compensation package. The total compensation package for this position may also include a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
