We're looking for an exceptional optical/photonic experimental scientist to join our Advanced Technology team. In this role, you'll have the unique opportunity to explore new paradigm-changing technologies that could shape future products for the Aerospace industry. This is an exciting and distinctive opportunity to operate on the frontier of microsystem sensor development, championing technologies from cutting edge research through product launch. In this role, you will be responsible for researching and demonstrating advanced sensor concepts that will result in new technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply previous R&D expertise and experiences to advance the state of art in atomic clocks/ quantum sensing or integrated photonics applications.
  • Perform design, simulation, and characterization to support atomic clock/quantum sensing or integrated photonics programs under the guidance of senior scientists in the group.

Minimum qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program in physics, electrical engineering, applied physics, optics, or related field
  • 3 or more years of research experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Experimental Atomic, Molecular, and Optical (AMO) Physics.
  • Laser Cooling and Trapping of Ions or Neutral Atoms
  • Integrated photonics
  • Nonlinear optics
  • Optical modeling and design in Lumerical or COMSOL
  • Atom Interferometry
  • Track record of solving difficult, complex problems through innovation, analysis, engineering, and experimentation
  • Due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations, candidate must be a U.S. Person, which is defined as, a U.S. citizen, a U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status

  • Hardware experience with
  • Chip-scale testbed assembly and operation
  • Laser systems including diode lasers and ultra-stable optical cavities
  • Microwave frequency (>1 GHZ) test and measurement equipment
  • UHV (<1E-9 Torr) methods and apparatuses
  • Fiber optic components
  • Analog and digital circuitry
  • Software experience with
  • LabView or other experimental control software
  • Matlab
  • Python
  • HFSS
  • Theoretical experience with
  • Nonlinear optics (second-harmonic generation, optical frequency comb generation, Brillouin scattering, etc.)
  • Electro-optic modulation
  • Optical resonators
  • The ability to work in a diverse team

Interning at Honeywell provides hands-on experience with cutting-edge technologies, professional development, and mentorship within a global organization. Interns will receive relocation benefits and short-term housing if they are 50 miles or more from their assigned work location (excluding Puerto Rico and Canada).
