Job Summary

The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute is a research and teaching collaboration between Harvard Pilgrim Health Care (a Point32Health company) and Harvard Medical School. As the nation's first medical school appointing department based in a health plan, we are strategically positioned to improve population health and health care delivery locally, nationally, and internationally.

The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute is seeking a Communications Specialist to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Institute Communications, the Communications Specialist will develop and implement internal and external communications strategies, plans, and programs in support of the Institute. S/he will create and deploy strategies for building awareness of the Institute, its research, and its impacts with a focus on social media, digital publications, and digital/web content.

Key Responsibilities/Duties – what you will be doing

  • Identify content opportunities and work closely with the Director of Institute Communications and Sr. Communication Specialist to help plan and produce compelling written content and photography for the public website, intranet, social media channels, and additional communications.
  • Primary individual responsible for updating public website; work closely with Sr. Communication Specialist to write, review, copyedit, approve, and publish digital content using Drupal; ensure content on the public website is up to date and updated frequently, including division and teaching content, research projects and statistics, key publications, staff directory, and investigator directory and bios; enforce the Institute’s web style guide.
  • Monitor and update internal intranet; work closely with Institute Administration and Point32Health to ensure content on the intranet is up to date; provide guidance to Institute Administration team members on managing intranet documents in SharePoint.
  • Manage the Institute’s social media communities; work closely with the Communications team to write, edit, design, and post high-quality social content on a daily basis to generate social media audience growth while adhering to Institute branding guidelines; craft and implement creative, multi-faceted social strategies and campaigns; track and analyze digital activities monthly so results and goals are quantifiable, and strategy and tactics can be adjusted as appropriate; monitor trends and emerging practices in social media; evaluate and recommend new platforms for Institute presence.
  • Manage the Institute’s photo archives.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications – what you need to perform the job

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications or other related area

EXPERIENCE (minimum years required):

  • 3-5 years of experience in a communications role, social media and web content management a plus
  • 3 years of experience in an academic, research, or health care environment.
  • 1-3 years of experience managing website content within a Drupal environment

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Superior writing, editing, and proofreading skills including knowledge of AP style and medical terminology.
  • Proven ability to develop clear and accurate communications regarding complex medical and scientific information.
  • Strategic thinker with outstanding organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines.
  • Excellent written/verbal communication, storytelling, research, and documentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment to reach business goals and objectives.
  • Motivated and flexible, able to work independently.
  • Comfortable learning and working in digital platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS (include special requirements, e.g., lifting, travel):

  • Must be able to work under normal office conditions and work from home as required.
  • Work may require simultaneous use of a telephone/headset and PC/keyboard and sitting for extended durations.
  • May be required to work additional hours beyond standard work schedule.
