Summary:
The Web Editor/Sr. Writer is responsible for creating website content for unchealth.org that helps people understand, navigate and make decisions related to their health and healthcare. This role reports to the Web Content Manager and will share responsibility for the success of a team of web content writers.
Responsibilities: 1. Tracks — Contribute to the development of an effective editorial and content strategy aligned with UNC Health’s objectives and target audiences. Assist with oversight of the editorial content process, including researching and assigning topics, establishing editorial deadlines and ensuring adherence to style guidelines and brand voice. Conceptualize, research, write and edit engaging content, including content snippets that support dynamic personalization on unchealth.org.
2. Leading Change — Stay abreast of industry trends, best practices and emerging content formats — including responsibly and appropriately adopting AI — to drive innovation, efficiency, effectiveness and
evolution of the content strategy.
3. Leading People — Provide coaching in editing and writing to other staff, as needed, ensuring adherence to Style, Brand Voice, best practices and QA.
4. Results Driven — Collaborate with the broader team to analyze, evaluate and optimize content for search engines, ensuring maximum visibility and organic reach. Monitor content performance metrics, such as engagement, traffic and conversion rates, and use insights to recommend refinements to content strategy and improvements to future content creation efforts.

Education Requirements:
● A bachelor’s degree in journalism, English, communications, marketing or a closely related field.
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
● None required.
Professional Experience Requirements:
● Requires five (5) years of content creation and three (3) years of editing experience.
● Requires proven experience in writing within a healthcare, non-profit or similar environment, showcasing the ability to translate complex ideas into accessible content for diverse audiences.
Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
● Writing Skills: Demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging, and persuasive content.
● Creative Thinking: Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills to develop innovative content ideas and compelling narratives that resonate with the target audience.
● Project Management: Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing requirements in a fast-paced environment.
● Team Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, content creators and stakeholders.
● Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy, consistency and adherence to brand guidelines in all content deliverables.
● Tech Savvy: Proficiency in content management systems (CMS), social media platforms and analytics tools. Knowledge of Adobe Experience Manager and writing for component-based websites is a plus.
