Full Job Description

The University of Washington School of Medicine, Department of Surgery's Surgical Outcomes Research Center (SORCE), invites applications for a full-time Research Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to:

Conduct Outcomes Research: Lead and collaborate on studies assessing the impact of surgical procedures on patients, society and the healthcare system. Develop Research Methodologies: Utilize a comprehensive range of outcomes research. Translate Research into Practice: Work closely with surgeons, healthcare providers and stakeholders to implement research findings into clinical practice aiming to improve surgical care quality Mentorship and Education: Provide guidance and training to fellows, residents, staff and other trainees in research methodologies and best practices. Contribute to Strategic Planning: Participate in the development of SORCEs strategic initiatives, including setting priorities for research programs and evaluating ongoing projects. Develop Partnerships: Build and maintain collaborations with internal and external stakeholders, including faculty, healthcare organizations, and research sponsors. Secure independent funding: Identify and pursue funding opportunities to support research projects, including grant writing and collaboration with funding agencies. Disseminate Research Findings: Present research outcomes at national and international conferences and publish findings in peer-reviewed journals to maximize impact and visibility.

This position will be at the Research Assistant Professor level (non-tenure eligible).Research assistant professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.The base salary range for this position will be: $8,334 - $11,500 per month ($100,008 - $138,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Anticipated start date would be March or April 1, 2025.

Qualifications:

Regional or national reputation in surgical outcomes research. Strong track record of collaboration within multidisciplinary teams. Ability to translate research findings into clinical practice. MD degree (or foreign equivalent). A PhD (or foreign equivalent) in medical sciences or a related field is also acceptable. Demonstrated excellence in research with a strong publication record. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, as documented by letters of recommendation. Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in academia, as documented by diversity statement.
