Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is looking to hire a statistician to assist with studies using Big Data to enhance the care of patients with ocular diseases.

Responsibilities*

  • Provide support for faculty in the areas of data management and statistical analysis.
  • Support faculty and trainee research projects, aid faculty with the statistical aspects for grant proposals and manuscript preparation.
  • Advise on the use of statistical methodology and software.
  • Serve as the primary statistical consultant and statistician on grants.

Required Qualifications*

     STATISTICIAN SENIOR:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 3 years of experience in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Experience with statistical consulting.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong background/interest in research design and statistical computing.
  • Experience performing analyses using large databases.
  • Ability to design and execute statistical models including but not limited to multivariable logistic, linear,and Cox regression.
  • Able to work well as part of a research team.
  • Ability to communicate statistical concepts and results both orally and through written manuscripts.    

      STATISTICIAN INTERMEDIATE:

  • Bachelor's degree with at least 1 year of experience in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively.
  • Strong background/interest in research design and statistical computing. A
  • Ability to design and execute statistical models including but not limited to multivariable logistic, linear,and Cox regression.
  • Able to work well as part of a research team.
  • Ability to communicate statistical concepts and results both orally and through written manuscripts.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Master's degree with at least 3 years of experience in statistics, biostatistics, or a related field.
  • Experience using at least one of the following software packages / languages: SAS, R, Python, SQL.
  • Experience working with large administrative or electronic health record datasets.
  • Experience working with Tableau.
  • Experience with machine learning algorithms. 
  • Experience with penalized regression methods such as LASSO

Modes of Work

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
