Description

Position Summary

The RightNow Inventory Product Development Engineer will create design specifications that meet and exceed user needs and marketing requirements. This position will be responsible for managing projects and developing products from ideation to commercialization and post-launch support. In addition to supporting the product development team, this position will collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams to ensure the portfolio's success.

Essential Functions and Duties

General Engineering Tasks

  • Performs routine engineering assignments or related tasks, which are typically an integral portion of larger projects.
  • Works independently to complete engineering assignments and resolve technical challenges.

Problem Solving

  • Solves problems and designs experiments with some assistance.
  • Resolves technical issues within the scope of one’s core educational expertise with assistance and monitoring from more experienced staff.
  • Leads brainstorming sessions to yield ideas and concepts to solve problems.

Project Management

  • Works with Product Management, Software Development, Operations, Technology Services, and Manufacturing in a cross functional team environment to successfully execute the project goals and objectives.
  • Creates detailed and accurate project plans and estimates for resources - determines tasks, budget, labor, materials, and time required to complete projects.
  • Directs project team members and other support personnel with assistance.
  • Contributes to project risk management.
  • Ability to internally communicate technical or project management results and issues, both verbally and in written form. With supervision, may externally communicate technical information to suppliers or contractors.

Product Development

  • Creates design inputs from user needs and marketing requirements with assistance from others.
  • Creates Given-When-Then user stories that meets user needs and marketing requirements.
  • Assists in conducting customer advisory board meetings and participating in other VOC gathering meetings.
  • Identifies and mitigates safety and efficacy risks. Under supervision, drives the identification of hazards, causes and the mitigation of risks.
  • Specifies user workflows to define and verify product performance requirements.
  • Creates test plans, new test protocols within one's knowledge area, assists with fixture designs, oversees outside test services, and writes reports with some assistance from others.
  • Maintains test equipment and teaches others on test methodologies.
  • Fine-tunes designs to meet user needs and marketing requirements.
  • Leads effort to transition project to RNI support and commercialization teams during Product Launch phase.
  • Analyzes existing products to identify areas for improvement.
  • Sustains existing products with additional bug fixes, line extensions, etc. as needed.

Preparation of Engineering Documentation

  • Leads in the preparation and presentation of materials for internal or external technical reviews with assistance.
  • Creates engineering documentation including design inputs and outputs, user stories, engineering drawings, test plans, manufacturing instructions, design verification and validation, engineering change notices, and other supporting engineering documents with supervision and some assistance from others.
  • Independently compiles and maintain a design history file that is organized, thorough, and up to date throughout the life of a project.
  • Creates intellectual property, drafts claims, and prepares patent applications in conjunction with attorneys.

Other

  • Operates office equipment: computer, scanner, printer, copier, fax, 10 Key, calculator, and phone.
  • Adheres specifically to all company policies and procedures, Federal and State regulations, and laws.

  • Ensure conduct is consistent with all Compliance Program Policies and procedures when engaging in any activity on behalf of the company. Immediately report any concerns or violations.

Qualifications


Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field.

Required Knowledge:

  • General knowledge of concepts, practices, and technologies related to the RNI product development portfolio of projects.
  • Basic knowledge of project management principles.

Preferred Knowledge:

  • Software development lifecycle and agile management tools

Required Experience:

  • At least three (3) years’ experience in product development engineering with a B.S. degree or one (1) years’ experience required with an advanced degree
  • Has supported product development projects of various scope.

Preferred Experience:

  • Pharmaceutical or medical device industry experience
  • IoT device and network management experience

Required Skills:

  • Innovative, Creative, and Analytical
  • Understands descriptive statistics and can perform basic statistical analyses.
  • Ability to determine sample size requirements to meet quality and reliability objectives with assistance from others.
  • Ability to read and understand drawing layouts.
  • Ability to create drawings with advanced views, details, tables, etc. and perform 2D tolerance analysis and fits. Able to create assembly drawings.
  • Good communication (oral and written), presentation and interpersonal skills. Communicates technical expertise with confidence one-on-one and in front of groups.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Strong computer skills, including MS Office Suite and SolidWorks or equivalent modeling software. Familiar with MS Project and Jira (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work independently with a focus on detail and execution.
  • Effective team leadership, interpersonal and delegation skills.
  • Ability to manage several projects in parallel.

Physical requirements

Vision, hearing, speech, movements requiring the use of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Must have the ability to view a computer screen for prolonged periods and the ability to sit for extended periods. Must have the ability to work the hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled. The employee occasionally lifts to 20 lbs. and occasionally kneels and bends. Must have the ability to travel occasionally. Working condition include normal office setting.

Mental Demands

Learning, thinking, concentration and the ability to work under pressure, particularly during busy times. Must be able to pay close attention to detail and be able to work as a member of a team to ensure excellent customer service. Must have the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and customers, and exercise self-control and diplomacy in customer and employee relations’ situations. Must have the ability to exercise discretion as well as appropriate judgments when necessary. Must be proactive in finding solutions.
