A Brief Overview
The Project Cost Controller stands at the intersection of project management and financial management; this position's task is to partner and collaborate with Facilities project management to ensure that construction projects have appropriate financial oversight, reporting, and consistency in management. This role is broad and detailed, requiring a delicate balance of strategic oversight and close attention to project cost details while ensuring accurate reporting and collaboration.

What you will do

  • Cost Monitoring and Reporting: Regularly monitor actual project expenditures against the budget and monitor forecast future costs as projected by the project management. Prepare detailed cost reports and financial summaries to present to project management teams, and for presentations to senior management.
  • Budget Preparation and Management: Develop and maintain the project budget; forecast project costs based on historical data, market trends, and project specifics.
  • Collaboration with Project Teams: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure cost objectives are met. Provide cost-related input and advice during project planning and execution phases.
  • Financial Forecasting and Analysis: Use financial modeling to predict outcomes of project financial performance. Analyze variances between actual and budgeted or costs and recommend corrective actions.
  • Risk Analysis: In collaboration with project management identify and assess potential financial risks associated with project delays, cost overruns, and other issues. As provided by the project management teams, track progress of strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Process Improvement: Continually assess and improve cost control methods, tools, and processes to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of cost management and cost reporting.
  • Change Order Management: Evaluate the financial impact of changes in project scope, schedule, including additional work or alterations, and incorporate these into the project forecasting.
  • Contract Management: Work closely with the procurement, project management and finance teams to gain insight, monitor, and report on the solicitation and ratification of contract commitments.
  • Project Accounting: In collaboration with project management and finance, setup and monitor project funding approvals, cash allocations to fund projects, project accounting, contract commitments, and overall cost reporting on a cash and accrual basis.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree finance, or accounting, or relevant field Required

Experience Qualifications

  • At least three (3) years construction project or real estate project development cost control Preferred
  • Hospital construction cost control project experience preferred
  • Demonstrated Project Manager experience preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, are vital for liaising with project stakeholders, and presenting financial reports to management (Required proficiency)
  • Proficiency in financial principles, budgeting, and accounting practices is essential for effective cost control and financial reporting. (Required proficiency)
  • The ability to quickly identify problems and devise practical solutions is critical, especially when addressing budget overruns or unexpected project challenges (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) - Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) - - Preferred
