The main function of a Technical Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files.
Job Responsibilities:
- Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
- Maintain records and files of work and revisions
- Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication
- Collection/Documentation of documentation requirements (use case, audience, objective of documentation prior to creation/development stage).
- Create/Draft/Maintain technical documentation (further details noted in ‘types of technical documents within scope).
- Editorial Review and Co-Collaboration with subject matter experts to produce technical documentation that has high levels of clarity and actionability.
- Accountable for evaluating/monitoring document readiness for broad consumption and/or launch.
- Create/Draft/Maintain marketing content and communication templates related to program delivery.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as computer science or English, journalism, communications
- 8-10 years experience required
- Experience in in creating documentation for a technical audience
- Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
- Ability to read some programming code
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
The target hiring compensation range for this role is $49 to $52 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
