Full Job Description

LifeSource is hiring a Preservation Specialist to collaborate with external and internal partners during organ recovery for donation opportunities and facilitate the coordination of donor recovery events by providing organ preservation, packaging, and delivery services. They will help execute and monitor mechanical preservation of organs by positioning cannula and placement of transplantable organs on a mechanical perfusion device using sterile technique to optimize organ acceptance. Provide prompt, professional, and effective service to partners and customers to meet requirements and enhance relationships.

As a Preservation Specialist, you'll advance our life-saving work by performing the following job responsibilities:

  • Independently facilitate and coordinate preservation and packaging for organ donation cases.
  • Facilitate preservation, monitoring, and packaging of organs for transplantation or research, in accordance with requirements.
  • Assemble, package, and transport preservation supplies and equipment to donation site.
  • Prepare surgical environment for organ preservation, executing sterile technique by scrubbing in to prepare sterile supplies, preparing organ pumps, and packaging materials.
  • Optimize organ acceptance by monitoring and adjusting mechanical preservation.
  • Complete post-case activities including organ delivery, documentation, terminal cleaning, and restocking.
  • Track, stock, and maintain the cleanliness and orderly manner of the clinical area, surgical preservation supply rooms, and organ pump room.
  • Actively maintain and troubleshoot preservation and histological equipment, in collaboration with internal and external partners, ensure communication, reporting of issues and concerns, and resolution.

Working Conditions/Schedule:

  • This is a .9 FTE role (based on three 12 hour shifts per week). Requires a variable remote and in-office blended schedule which includes weekdays, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs.

  • Rotating block, repeats every 2 weeks, every other weekend. 8a-830p (day) shift.

  • Training: 2-4 weeks on training shifts (days). Onsite and clinical training.
  • Travel expectations: local and regional within the DSA by ground or air. Must have valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to report onsite within one-hour of notification.

  • Must be able to adjust schedule to accommodate organizational needs. Overtime may be appropriate to meet organizational needs.

  • Environmental influences may include unpleasant odors, slippery surfaces, work in operating rooms/morgues at hospitals/funeral homes/medical examiners offices, temperature variations, exposure to human tissue and associated hazards and biohazards.

  • Affected team members in Category I are regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens and have a potential for this exposure or handle materials that could spread infection (one or more potential opportunities per month). Additionally, they have regular interaction with staff in patient or donor areas in a hospital or clinic setting while performing their assigned job duties.

  • Ability transfer and push/pull objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Must be able to follow and successfully complete category immunization, health screening and background check requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Requires education and/or experience relevant to human anatomy, biology, surgical procedure, surgical technology, or executing job duties in an operating room environment.

  • Preferred knowledge and execution of aseptic/sterile technique.

  • Preferred previous experience in organ donation or organ transplantation.

  • Self-directed, motivated contributor with a strong initiative, ability to function autonomously, and establish priorities to meet deadlines with a demonstrated ability to drive results to improve processes and outcomes with the use of critical thinking, analytical skills, problem-solving capabilities.

  • Must be organized, detail oriented, and have strong collaboration and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers with proficiency in the ability to develop and connect with people quickly.

  • Demonstrated ability to exhibit a high degree of quality, integrity, and honor confidentiality of appropriate information including, but not limited to, personal team member data, organizational operations or work processes, donor and donor family information, contributor details, any financial information and medical or protected health information (PHI) in accordance with HIPAA.

  • Must maintain a valid driver license and have reliable personal automobile to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines for travel within the service area (MN, ND, SD) by ground or air.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  • Proven skilled and competent in using technology-based tools such as personal computers and related software, mobile devices, and electronic medical record systems as appropriate for position.

Projected offer rate range: $27-30 /hour, based on years of relevant experience
