BAE Systems is hiring for an Occupational Safety Specialist to support at its site in Louisville, Ky. This role supports second shift, 2:30pm-midnight. In this role as an Occupational Safety Specialist, you will report directly to the Safety & Health Supervisor. You'll work independently to provide technical and professional safety health support to BAE Systems managers and employees to improve the safety and health of our employees, ensure environmental risks are mitigated, and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with management, staff, and hourly employees to promote the development of a safety, health, and environmental culture that exhibits the behaviors and processes outlined in the BAE Systems SHE management systems.
- Lead and execute incident investigations with line management and various levels of professionals within the organization.
- Perform a team approach to Root Cause Analysis, utilizing defined methodologies to identify causes and preventive measures.
- Report or review findings from incident investigations, inspections, or other applicable information to senior leadership.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and health regulation compliance.
- Assist with the on-going management of the SHE Environmental Management System.
- Prepare and update procedures and work instructions.
- Be instrumental in assisting with corporate SHE reviews and inspections.
- Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment in order to determine if safety health and environmental requirements have been met.
- Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, and temperature levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Confer with health professionals to assess health risks and develop ways to manage health issues related to occupational exposures.
- Ability to execute required company and regulatory training to management and hourly employees.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and equipment in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety and health regulation compliance.
- Interact with Federal, State, and Local regulators during inspections.
- Gain knowledge and work with BAE Systems' computer based program for managing Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
- Other duties required to fulfill Company and regulatory SHE requirements.
- Support on 2nd Shift, 2:30 PM to Midnight.
- Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in an Environmental, Safety, or equivalent field, and two years of related experience.
- Thorough knowledge of EHS regulations and modern EHS management principles.
- Possess basic knowledge of Environmental and Safety Management System (ISO 14001 & ISO 45001).
- Excellent communication skills in order to deliver complex information effectively to employees and all levels of site management (written and verbal).
- Ability to prepare and present survey analyses to all employee groups.
- Experience facilitating meetings and working groups.
- With minimal supervision, able to take self-initiative as an individual contributor, while also able to work in a team environment.
- Exceptional time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to coach/consult with line management at all levels relative to building a culture and processes that lead to excellent SHE performance.
- Work proficiently with Microsoft suite of programs and related industry software applications.
- Able to support to a 2nd Shift schedule.
- Two or more years of Safety Health and Environmental Experience in a manufacturing, industrial, regulatory or consulting company.
- Sound knowledge of engineering, chemical, physical and biological sciences.
- ASP/ CSP certification.
- Exposure to a union environment.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $58300 - $99100
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
