JOB SUMMARY:
The Mobility Architect is responsible for the strategy, roadmap, planning, and enterprise level architecture of the Mobility space. This includes researching industry best practices, developing strong vendor relationships, and conducting forward-looking planning for the Mobility environment. The incumbent will partner closely with Technology Security, Productivity Technologies, and other key technology departments to perform roadmap planning, environment optimization and cyber security implementation. Strategic technologies include Workspace One MDM, iOS, Android, Global Protect/VPNs, Azure, VMWare Tunnel and Intune.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
A B.S. degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business, or another related field, or significant experience in an equivalent role is required.
A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years providing architecture and engineering experience with all aligned technology disciplines including Workspace One, iOS, Android, Global Protect/VPNs, Azure, Active Directory VMWare Tunnel, Intune, and Microsoft 365 applications. Knowledge of Power BI and Splunk are preferred. The incumbent must be knowledgeable on current and emerging relevant industry related products, techniques, and trends.
Attitude is critical, the incumbent must have a high degree of focus on quality and the business partner’s technology experience. Improving the end user digital experience is key.
Ability to define and clearly articulate the long-term vision for aligned technologies and to develop short term plans to achieve the objectives. Focus on maximizing the customer’s digital experience while minimizing technology cost.
Excellent communicator, both written and verbal. Ability to relay information to engineering teams to execute in a clear and concise manner. Ability to simplify complex subjects in a way that can be easily understood by less technical audiences.
Ability to effectively present roadmaps and receive buy-in from cross functional teams and executive leadership.
Ability to create and evaluate reference architectures and ensure enterprise-wide buy-in, adoption, adherence, and implementation.
Ability to analyze information from multiple sources for complex problem resolution.
Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, industry experts and other internal and external groups.
Ability to effectively lead committees and teams, train personnel, and create and deliver presentations.

Excellent vendor / supplier interaction skills. Our technology suppliers are a vital part of our technology eco-system, and they should be leveraged. The incumbent should be able to interface with technology vendors to define roadmaps, escalate issues, and solve complex problems.

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Mobility Architect is responsible for creating strategy and roadmaps associated with the Mobility environments. The incumbent will be responsible for communicating roadmaps to engineers, project teams and key stakeholders. Often highly technical concepts will need to be translated to less technical language for absorption by a wide range of audiences. Thus, outstanding written, verbal and presentation skills are a requirement.
The Mobility Architect will research industry direction and emerging technologies to define best practices and future direction. The incumbent will partner with strategic vendors and third-party experts to define the future state of mobility. The incumbent will stay abreast of business needs/changes, along with emerging trends, techniques, or solutions pertaining to the mobility technology space.
The Mobility Architect will perform risk assessments on existing and emerging technologies and will create and drive plans to harden gaps in existing technologies. The incumbent will continually analyze demand against capability, compared to costs; and continually make recommendations to stretch our technology dollars further. They will assist project managers in developing implementation plans for projects or best practices. They will make licensing recommendations and provide input into annual budget creation and purchase analysis/decisions. The Mobility Architect is also responsible for setting and implementing standards within the owned technologies.
The Mobility Architect will partner closely with Workstation Management, Virtualization, Security and Application teams to design innovative solutions. The incumbent will often be involved in designing complex technical solutions that span multiple technologies.
The Mobility Architect will lead initial planning efforts and strategy creation for Mergers/Acquisition/Divestiture activities. The incumbent will also be responsible for the currency of the technologies they manage and will drive implementation timeframes related to versioning, patching, and software/hardware updates to maintain supportability and currency.
For Southern Company to maximize the benefits from our technology spend, it is vital that our business partners are knowledgeable and informed on the effective use of the technology they utilize. The Mobility Architect is responsible for providing education to business partners across Southern Company on how to use their technology, and to provide instructions to other partner groups, such as the Workplace Support teams on how to support the technology.
