The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a critical role in designing and developing mechanical systems and components for Quad's advanced in-store retail media solutions. This position requires a blend of creativity and technical expertise to ensure that all mechanical designs meet both aesthetic and functional requirements while adhering to practical manufacturing practices.

This position can be Hybrid depending on location, but preferred to be Onsite at Quad's Morrisville, NC location.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Engineer mechanical systems for AV/IT products and components such as Mounting Systems, Decorative & Protective Shrouds, Adapter Plates, and Equipment Enclosures.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineers, product managers, field engineers, customer support resources, and sales representatives to identify full breadth of the design initiative.
  • Determine scope, level of effort, cost, and timeframe for design, manufacturing, prototyping, and final product delivery of all mechanical elements.
  • Utilize Computer-aided design (CAD) to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings for parts and assemblies.
  • Create ISO and Exploded views of the final mechanical assemblies for documentation packages and installation guides.
  • Work with 3rd party vendors to coordinate the specifications, deliverable timelines, drawing format & versioning, shipping of final product, and all details associated with product delivery.
  • Oversee the prototyping and testing phases to evaluate product functionality for field deployment.
  • Provide technical support during the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Installation process to ensure designs are accurately implemented.
  • Create and maintain a mechanical product catalog of variations, iterations, and historical SKU's for internal and external departmental reference.
  • Continuously improve designs based on feedback from stakeholders and performance data collected from market deployments.
  • Perform FEA and static load calculations or simulations.

Job Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 5-10 years' experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on product design and development.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven track record of mechanical design, particularly within commercial electronics industries.
  • Proficiency in 3D (and 2D) Modeling software such as SolidWorksor similar.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of structural engineering, industrial products, material strength and tolerances, manufacturing/fabrication processes, and mechanical principles relevant to product design.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think creatively.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, capable of leading projects from concept through to production.
  • Ability to adapt to new technologies and stay informed on current industry trends.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and communicate complex ideas clearly.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with component design and fabrication techniques such as Sheet metal design, CNC machining, Welding, Injection molding, and 3D printing.
  • Position requires some travel domestically.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications like ASME
  • Structural engineering certifications, such as SE licensure or SEI certifications
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or other relevant certification is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with AV related products such as Kiosks, Totems, Displays, A-Frames, and similar technology.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • SolidWorks simulation is a plus
