WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Lead Grants Specialist provides highly specialized public awards administration and finance/accounting-related services to one or more business unites in the Eastern Region. They support a Grants Manager in the supervision of a team and in the oversight of TNC's programs. The Grants Service Network (GSN) within the Conservancy, provides guidance and administrative support for awards of funds to the Conservancy from United States federal, state, and local government agencies, multilateral agencies, and other national and local governments. The GSN also administers the Conservancy's grants of funds to other entities, including those funded by a government agency, multilateral organization, other non-profit organization, private foundation, or private donor.
Position location is flexible, with preference given to the eastern United States or an established Nature Conservancy office within the eastern United States.

The Lead Grants Specialist has a high level of expertise in award administration and financial services. The position administers and maintains public award documentation and completes financial activities in accordance with TNC policies and procedures, public rules and regulations, and best practices in financial/organizational management. The Lead Grants Specialist provides assistance to all levels of personnel in their specialty area. They respond to complex employee/management questions and problems based on advanced knowledge of the subject area. The Lead Grants Specialist shares knowledge with other members of the Grants Services Network (GSN), supports and participates in GSN activities, and supervises GSN staff.

The Lead Grants Specialist oversees and manages a team of Grant Specialists and/or Grants Associates within their assigned geographical area. The Lead Grants Specialist may monitor team funding trends and work with the Grants Manager on team workload distribution and new hires. They communicate with the Grants Manager to report, discuss and resolve issues, and identify and implement projects. May collaborate with other Lead Grants Specialists.

RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
* Administers public awards.
* Ensures programmatic commitments, TNC policies and procedures, financial standards and legal requirements are met and managed for compliance.
* Reinforces consistency in the organization's policies and procedures and provides support and training related to award administration.
* Participate in complex negotiations.
* Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and judgment
* Supervise and manage a team of GSN staff. Monitor funding trends and capacity for the team and works with Grants Manager if shifts in workloads are needed.
* Builds cooperation with internal parties to accomplish program goals*
* May track and assist with single project audits for assigned region
* Communicate with the Grants Manager to report, discuss and resolve issues
* Participates in and implements special projects established with Grants Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

* Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
* 3 years or more of experience with public award accounting/financial issues and analysis.
* Experience using accounting and financial reporting systems
* Technical experience with Microsoft Excel, general ledger reports and financial management tools.
* Experience, coursework or other training with U.S. Federal Uniform Guidance, state and local regulations, multilateral and international regulations, and standard contract clauses.
* Experience recruiting, supervising and developing staff.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Multi-lingual skills and/or multi-cultural experience appreciated.
* Non-profit accounting experience preferred.
* Excellent analytical and quantitative skills.
* Experience in manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
* Experience monitoring for and ensuring compliance with organizational policy, applicable law and regulation, and finance/accounting/management best practice.
* Experience analyzing a regulatory framework and applying it to the situation at hand
* Knowledge of current trends in specific field.
* Experience acting as a resource to others to solve problems.
* Experience coordinating and leading projects.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $76,000 - $121,000 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, and experience. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
