Gainesville Regional Utilities, Energy Delivery Department is seeking a qualified IT support intern to serve as our Operational Technology Network Analyst.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in these and other areas: configuration of computer systems and networking devices and/or experience in programming language(s); experience providing solutions to hardware and software systems issues. have and perform excellent communication skills.
Networking Team –
Responsibilities
- Experience with network cable management
- Perform troubleshooting to system failures and identify bottlenecks to ensure long term efficiency of network
- Inspect LAN infrastructure and fix minor problems/bugs
- Test and configure software and maintain and repair hardware and peripheral devices
- Evaluate network performance and find ways of improvement
- Do regular data backups to protect the organization’s information
Requirements
- Experience as network technician or relevant position
- Basic diagnostic, problem-solving and analytical skills
- Good communication skills
- Basic knowledge of LAN/WAN networks, TCP/IP protocols and network technologies
- Basic experience with common software and hardware
Systems Team –
Responsibilities
- Work as part of a team to identify, diagnose, and resolve problems with computer hardware and peripherals including workstations, servers and local area networking
- Experience installing and managing the Microsoft operating system on a server & workstations
- Have understanding of the technical concepts, architecture, systems, development methods, and disciplines associated with the defined program, and utilizes knowledge to accelerate project completion.
- Upgrading and repairing computer networks and deploying and updating software.
- Assist team to complete tasks in support of OT systems.
- Working on tickets and service requests to provide technical support to users, in partnership with Systems Engineers and Developers
Requirements
- Familiarity with application, desktop and/or server virtualization
- Excellent customer service skills to include positive attitude, strong communication and organizational skills
- Understanding of virtualization solutions (ex. VMWare)
- Understanding of network architectures - routing, switching, DNS, etc.
- Software installation and configuration experience
- Experience troubleshooting application and network issues
- Strong work ethic and time management skills
NOTES:
- A GPA of 3.0 or above is preferred
- Proof of ongoing education will be provided at job offer appointment
- Internship may extend beyond on semester
- may include sedentary work
