The Value You Deliver

The Institutional Portfolio Manager (IPM) will play an integral role in addressing institutional client needs through a solutions-based approach. The IPM will represent our custom model capabilities to the external marketplace on behalf of Fidelity Institutional Wealth Advisor (FIWA). As the external facing member of the investment team, the IPM will represent FIWA's investment capabilities, including model portfolios, research and thought leadership with prospective and existing clients. The IPM will drive new business opportunities by helping to formulate strategic investment solutions and will service clients through investment policy discussions, performance reviews and capital market reviews.

The IPM will closely partner with the investment team, research, thought leadership and distribution teams. Critical role responsibilities will include:

  • Interacting with prospective custom model portfolio clients to understand their investment needs and mandates while working closely with the FIWA engineering team to implement custom solutions;
  • Developing and maintaining depth of investment insights to effectively communicate externally as an extension of the FIWA team;
  • Monitoring portfolio rebalances, positioning, performance, and attribution of existing mandates and represent portfolios to our clients, partnering with distribution to translate investment decisions into client facing commentary;
  • Understanding and interpreting capital market perspectives that influence investment solutions and strategy;
  • Marketplace credibility to represent the investment team and process as well as the overall Fidelity organization most effectively in client, consultant, and industry conference speaking engagements;
  • Providing feedback on marketplace perspectives, developments, and competitor trends to the investment and distribution organizations to enhance investment and business platforms;
  • Translating investment infrastructure / product management support to improve investment solution offerings and implementations, including marketing, client reporting and product/ solutions positioning

Core Competencies

The IPM will have:

  • Investment acumen to understand how portfolios can be structured to achieve client goals. This includes asset class expertise across global public and private market investments with emphasis on total return mandates
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple internal business groups and external clients and consultants
  • Advanced client communication skills in delivering asset solutions to institutional clients
  • A desire to contribute to thought leadership efforts including articles, speaking, and research to support Fidelity's institutional business

The Skills & Experience You Bring

Experience and Education:

  • 10-15 years of investment industry experience
  • Successful track record of institutional solutions analytical work and investment management strategy implementation to a broad spectrum of institutional constituencies
  • CFA designation or similar educational background preferred; but not required

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Highly effective and consistent written and verbal communication skills
  • Executive presence and the ability to develop productive relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to successfully articulate detailed mechanics of client issues/analytics and investment solutions to institutional clients
  • Comfort and ability to work in a highly collaborative environment, with a frequent focus on gaining consensus across a broad spectrum of investment management, distribution, product management and senior management constituents
  • Capability to balance resolve and temperament in response to pursuing opportunity through organizational structure
  • Ability to travel frequently, with an overall expectation on average of 20-30% travel (with some dates flexible)

Fidelity's working model blends the best of working offsite with maximizing time together in person to meet associate and business needs. Currently, most hybrid roles require associates to work onsite all business days of one assigned week per four-week period (beginning in September 2024, the requirement will be two full assigned weeks).
