About the Job
The Industrial Hygiene Programs Manager is responsible for supervising programs and staff within the industrial hygiene and hazardous waste management content areas. They are considered a content expert in their areas of responsibility and are also responsible for the development of their direct reports by managing and providing leadership and technical support to improve individual performance.

1. 40% Management (supervising, hiring and recruiting staff and program management)
2. 30% Strategic (Planning and guidance)
3. 30% Technical (leading and performing technical duties/projects)


What you will do

  • 1. Management of the enterprise Industrial Hygiene programs
    • Responsible for the evaluation and validation of a safe work environment as it relates to the area of industrial hygiene.
    • Responsible for compliance with all regulations and standards regarding chemical air monitoring, respiratory protection, personal protective equipment, ergonomics, and hazard communication.
    • Develop education, programs, polices, and procedures as they relate to industrial hygiene.
    • Participates as a lead representative for EHS in the enterprise Bioresponse Steering Committee. Influences and make decisions regarding personal protective equipment selection and use, waste management, employee safety content expertise, and workflow design.
  • 2. Supervision of the enterprise Hazardous and Pharmaceutical Waste programs.
    • Responsible for the proper management and categorization of all hazardous and pharmaceutical waste generated by the enterprise.
    • Advise on regulatory agency compliance, changes, and their impact to the enterprise.
    • Identify programs strengths and areas of improvement, including waste reduction and sustainability efforts
    • Develop education, programs, policies and procedures as they relate to the proper identification, storage, handling and disposal of hazardous and pharmaceutical wastes.
  • 3. Active member of the Employee Safety Program :
    • Identify opportunities to reduce employee risk for injury or illness
    • Conducts injury investigations and/or ACA
    • Participates in various committees including but not limited to: MR Safety Committee, Clinical Laboratory Safety Committee, Laser Safety Committee, Hazardous Drug Safety Committee
    • Responds to OSHA complaints and Rapid Response Investigations (RRI), as needed
  • 4. Staff Management
    • Responsible for hiring and retention of staff in the industrial hygiene and waste management programs.
    • Manages performance, goal setting, and development of direct reports to achieve and sustain a high performing team.
    • Continually assesses the needs of the programs to meet the needs of the organization and provide justification to support growth needs.
    • Regularly reviews services provided to ensure the needs of the organization are being met.
  • 5. Participates in departmental activities, including on-call, hazardous chemical spill response, bioresponse team activations, environment of care rounds, and emergent event responses.


Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Healthcare Environmental Manager (CHEM) - - upon hire - Preferred
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) - American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) - upon hire - Preferred
  • Haz Waste Ops & ER 24or40 hour - Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) - upon hire - Preferred


Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Master's Degree Environmental Health, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field of study Preferred


Experience

  • At least eight (8) years experience primarily in the industrial hygiene field Required
  • At least two (2) years supervising other staff Required
  • Experience in healthcare or university settings Preferred


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, EPA, RCRA, and DOT regulations and recommendations.
  • Adaptable to change within the organization and areas of responsibility
  • Demonstrates exemplary written and oral presentation skills.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and priorities at one time
  • Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make decisions
  • Ability to coach direct reports, offering both positive and negative feedback
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Attention to detail and situational awareness
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities in both small and large audience settings.
