    Duties

    As a General Clerk, your duties include but are not limited to:

  • Performing a variety of administrative tasks using an automated system involving assigning, maintaining, monitoring, or updating work status and inventory records; ordering research; acknowledging correspondence; maintaining, updating, and initiating personnel records; timekeeping; and performing other support activities.
  • Identifying and reviewing W-2 forms attached to Forms 1040EZ and 1040PC for conditions meeting criteria for criminal investigation and coding the returns appropriately.
  • Preparing and maintaining regular production/inventory reports/attendance records using established formats and sources of data applicable to the program, functional, or organizational reporting requirements; also preparing special reports as directed.
  • Reviewing documents for specific requirements necessary for processing. Processing current year and/or prior year individual and/or business returns and related information.
  • Periodically reviewing filed material in light of ongoing programs or special projects and determining if such material should be consolidated, have new classifications, be retired, etc.
  • This position is considered seasonal, typically 3-5 months, 4-6 months, or 6-8 months. At the end of an employee's work schedule, they are placed in non-pay status and may be recalled to duty as workload or budget dictates and in accordance with their seasonal employment agreement. This position has career progression. If you are selected at a grade level lower than the full working level, you may be non-competitively promoted as your career progresses. For example, you may be hired as a GS-04, but if the position has career progression to GS-05, then you may move from a GS-04 to a GS-05 in as little as one (1) year.

    Qualifications

    Federal experience is not required to qualify for any of the grade levels identified below. You will qualify for one of the following opportunities based on your specialized experience and/or education.

    Experience for the GS-04 grade level

    General experience for this position includes progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the competencies needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. This may be paid or non-paid experience.

    OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited junior college, college, university, business, secretarial, or technical school.

    OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Options for qualifying based on a combination will be identified in the online questions.

    Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level

    You must have one (1) year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes experience that is in or related to this position and provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position. Examples of qualifying experience include conducting basic research and applying information as necessary, interacting and communicating (orally and in writing) with customers, and performing office duties.

    OR You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: a bachelor's degree or four (4) years of education above high school in any field of study from an accredited college or university.

    OR You may qualify by a combination of experience and education. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.

    RECRUITMENT INCENTIVE: A $2,000 incentive has been authorized for eligible and highly qualified applicants. A service agreement is required.
