Full Job Description

The Executive Director is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the United Houma, Inc.  This position engages with Board of Director and works under the supervision of the Board President to ensure short- and long-term planning of tribal programs and activities are consistent with community needs.  This individual oversees all grant operations including development, writing, implementation and reporting.  The Executive Director makes necessary decisions to ensure operations are conducted within the organization’s policies and procedures as well as those rules and regulations governed by grantors and funders.  Public presentations and community engagement may be coordinated with tribal government.

Roles and Responsibilities of this Position

  • Supervises all program activities and staff on a daily basis
  • Prepares written comments, recommendations and advises the Board, funders and supporters regarding the pressing issues affecting tribal citizens, communities and future charitable development
  • Develops and maintains organizational policies and procedures for Board review and approval that are consistent with the its mission and vision
  • Writes and drafts correspondences for the Board including preparing statements and positions for consideration of approval
  • Defines, implements, maintains and improves overall institution operational processes to attain maximum efficiency and outstanding customer service on behalf of tribal citizens served
  • Serves as the contracting authority for all services and other contracts, negotiations and activities as authorized by the Board
  • Strategies, coordinates, and seeks funding for existing and emerging tribal services
  • Captures input and engages tribal citizens to determine the effectiveness of program services
  • Develop and monitor the annual budget, accounts receivable, and payable, and overall fiscal management
  • Manage and oversee daily finances; provide monthly financial statements to the UHN, Inc. Finance Committee
  • Coordinate constituent contact for legal notices and informational campaigns
  • Ensure grant management is complying and current
  • Coordinate and lead employee recruitment, hiring, terminations, orientation and training
  • Determines employee classifications and ensures completion of all appropriate paperwork for new and terminated employees
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the Board

Required Qualifications

  • REQUIRED:  A Masters’ Degree in Business Administration, Management, Finance, Accounting, Community Development, or a related field
  • REQUIRED:  Prior experience working in management and development
  • Must have excellent verbal, written and communication skills
  • Must be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with community members, governmental agencies, nonprofit partners, and funding entities
  • Proficiency in team coordination software
  • Knowledge of UHN culture, programs, and services
  • Experience leading a team
  • Ability to meet deadlines while multitasking in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficiency in a variety of computer applications including MS Office and MS Excel and team coordination software
  • Acceptable Criminal Records check and Child Abuse Registry check

Position is full-time based in Houma, Louisiana.  Position requires travel.  Salary range is $71,350 to $109,000 and will be dependent upon experience.
