Summary:

Who will you be working with?

You'll be joining our innovative Wabtec Bus Solutions division, a team dedicated to developing leading systems for the Transit Bus & Rail industries including eBus charging systems, innovative passenger door systems, access ramps, and wheelchair lifts. Our group combines technical expertise with a deep understanding of product requirements to deliver industry-leading solutions and lasting value to our customers and the communities they serve.

How will you make a difference?

As a member of the Wabtec Bus Solutions division, you will be responsible for leading the electrical engineering team focused on door controls, ramps, lifts, charging/power transfer systems, and relay/contactor product lines. You'll oversee the design and development of new electrical products, ensure compliance with industry standards, and collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders. You'll report directly to the Director of Product Engineering, providing regular updates on project status, team performance, innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.

What do we want to know about you?

You may be a good fit if you have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or electronics engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering, with 3+ years in technical leadership or project management
  • Prior experience with the creation of electrical and electronic assemblies, including electrical harnesses, electronics in transportation applications
  • Strong knowledge of electrical design, systems, and components
  • Proven success leading people and project management
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Advanced Degree or MBA
  • Proficiency in project management tools
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma and Lean methodologies
  • Familiarity with transportation industry systems
  • Demonstrated ability to drive change and innovation

What will your typical day look like?

  • Oversee design and development of electrical products for bus/rail systems
  • Lead and develop a team of local and remote electrical engineers
  • Set team goals, priorities, providing coaching, and clear feedback
  • Regularly improves/adapts internally for more effective and efficient work
  • Drive design and approve electrical and mechanical designs
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety regulations
  • Collaborate with customers and stakeholders on product requirements
  • Manage projects from concept to production launch
  • Develop and enforce processes for timely, cost-effective, quality deliverables
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers
  • Drive initiatives to maintain Bus Solutions' market leadership
  • Grows and mentors team to improve long term results

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Primarily office-based work at the Buffalo Grove office
  • Occasional visits to manufacturing locations at Buffalo Grove IL and San Fernando CA.
  • Ability to use a computer for extended periods.
  • Occasional travel (10%) to customer sites may require standing, walking, and navigating transportation facilities.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
