Gainesville Regional Utilities, the 5th largest municipal electric utility in Florida, is seeking the best available senior level Electrical Engineer (Engineer IV) who will perform high level, independent, professional and technical Engineering work for an electric utility. The successful candidate will be required to support a wide variety of engineering projects, both as an individual contributor, project leader, and team leader. This is an excellent opportunity for growth, variety, and diversity in your job duties including hands on solutions, design, troubleshooting, and leadership.
To be considered for this position you must have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related field, from an ABET accredited educational institution.
A Senior level Engineer IV position will require at least 6 years' experience as an engineer with emphasis on utility electrical equipment, switchgear, and controls. We will consider an under fill with a less experienced engineer who is willing to learn and progress to the Senior level.
The IDEAL Senior Level candidate will have experience in the following areas:
• Electrical and controls of large power plant rotating equipment – pumps, fans, blowers, turbines, generators, and compressors
• Power plant auxiliary equipment
• Electrical wiring systems and codes
• Strong knowledge of protective relaying systems for large generators, plant auxiliary systems, and NERC regulations
• Strong knowledge of 480 volt and 4160-volt electric motors, motor control centers, breakers, switchgear, and cable systems
• Strong knowledge of electric drives, motor operators and positioners for valves and dampers
• General knowledge and experience with field control elements and control logic
• General knowledge and experience with transformers
• General knowledge and experience with Smart Transmitters
• General knowledge and experience with Generator Voltage Regulators
• Knowledge of predictive technologies such as vibration analysis, I-R thermography, ultrasound, lube oil analysis, and motor circuit analysis
• Good organizational and communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to solicit input and support of others at various levels in an organization.
• Experience managing the following:
a. Contractors and various journeyman craft technicians
b. All phases of capital improvement projects from design through construction to acceptance testing.
c. Capital project management, to include budgeting, design review, writing job specifications, review of bids, selection of contractor, execution of project, commissioning of project, and facilitation of training as required.
• Experience serving as a team leader coordinating the work of others.

SUMMARY
Advanced, independent professional and technical engineering work requiring knowledge and application of the latest advancements in the field and knowledge of regulatory environment, and is fully accountable for work product.
Positions allocated to this classification report to a designated supervisor and work under general supervision receiving technical guidance on unusual and non-typical complex problems and supervisor approval on plan proposals. Work in this class is distinguished from other classes by its lack of managerial responsibility and by its emphasis on the application of advanced engineering skills, development, implementation, and interpretation of policies, and coordination of small engineering staff to a part of a major project, a total project of moderate scope, or controversial project affecting the effectiveness of the organization.
Note: The Engineer 4 / Utility Designer 4 classification is the fourth in a series of four Engineer / Utility Designer Classifications of progressively more demanding job competencies and engineering duties. QUALIFICATIONS
