The Team
We are seeking a Director of Employee Communications to join American Tower’s Corporate Human Resources organization. Day to day, you will lead employee communications for American Tower’s largest global division, U.S. Tower (UST). You will deepen employee engagement through strategic and creative multi-year communications plans and provide expertise across a broad range of employee, management, and business communications programs. The Director is a highly visible, cross-functional leadership position that maintains, develops, and implements high-impact employee communications in support of American Tower’s strategy and business objectives. The Director partners closely with UST’s President and Senior Vice President of Human Resources, other key executives, business leaders, and other Human Resources team members to drive key initiatives, including identifying communication objectives, brainstorming creative solutions, and developing and executing communications plans using multiple channels.

- Develop and successfully execute communications programs and supporting plans that strengthen colleagues' understanding of business goals, improve cross-functional communications, engage employees, and foster UST’s overall culture.
- Bring fresh, creative, and well-thought-out ideas and excel at working collaboratively with stakeholders at all levels.
- Collaborate across the organization on the development and execution of employee communication tactics, including Town Hall meetings, leadership team meetings, round tables, and other channels to facilitate connection to the Company’s goals and business strategies.
- Interpret ideas and concepts into easy-to-understand and consistent messages; develop engaging and creative communications for broad and varied audiences.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Public Affairs, and External Communications teams, along with internal communications colleagues, to align messaging across all communications channels.
- Partner with and support the HR team through communications strategies focused on Employee Value Proposition (EVP), learning and development, performance management, and other initiatives.
- Measure the effectiveness of communication activities and use feedback to improve future efforts.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or related field required.
- Master’s degree in Communications or related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of a combination of corporate, internal, and executive communications, along with event management experience required.
- Minimum of 7 years of advising and writing for executive leaders required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; proven storyteller capable of creating compelling and engaging narratives.
- Strong knowledge of best-in-class internal communications practices and a keen interest in next-generation communications tools.
- Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex dynamics, anticipate future needs and make strategic decisions in a changing environment.
- Strong strategic and problem-solving skills to effectively influence decision-making with a proven ability to build agreement on cross-functional communications and initiatives.
