WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER

The Development Operations Manager (DOM) will apply advanced skills to a functional team of organizational priority within a development program. The position will be responsible for providing organizational resources such as research, prospect management, and business analysis.

The Development Operations Manager will work with and within TNC staff networks and established systems to advance the strategic priorities of the fundraising team through management of key areas of responsibility. They are a critical member of the fundraising team, working closely with the Director of Development and providing expertise and guidance in systems and actions that support successful major gift fundraising. The DOM aligns fundraising and program activities to ensure all prospect management and solicitation activities are coordinated and donor-centered in approach. They will identify priorities based on the needs of the development program and will be responsible for establishing processes and plans to ensure maximum major gift fundraising effectiveness. The DOM will perform complex analysis on key organizational data, which may include donor or gift information. The DOM must be an expert in the systems and resources utilized by the team and apply this knowledge in providing organizational support and designing communications related to the resources. This position will keep up-to-date on market trends and best practices in order to improve services. They will analyze situations, evaluate alternatives, and implement solutions in order to improve effectiveness. This position also includes supervision of a Development Specialist and serves as backup for Development Specialist responsibilities to ensure continuity in peak times or during staff outages.

Duties are anticipated in the percentages below, and may fluctuate based on the business need:

  1. Donor Pipeline Development: (30%)

Lead efforts to support major gift discovery development and implementation through pipeline leads for fundraiser follow up to increase prospect pools across portfolios. Track fundraiser follow up on all assigned pipeline leads, planned gift prospects and new bequest donors through execution of donor engagement plans. Analyze, assess, and distribute pipeline names from various sources.

  • Engage with TNC departments that may serve as pipeline sources to determine best methods for data sharing and use.
  • Develop and implement tracking method for discovery work to measure fundraiser activity.
  • Coordinate with Donor Engagement Manager to develop and implement tracking method for donor engagement activities to determine return on investment.
  • Meet with each fundraiser at least monthly to help assess and prioritize pipeline names amongst competing priorities.
  • Oversee donor/prospect pipeline development and efforts to build strong major gift portfolios.
  • Strategic list development for broad outreach, events, mailings and other purposes.
  • Prospect research.

  1. Development Metrics/Revenue Management: (30%)

Create revenue report and dashboards to be updated monthly for leadership, fundraisers, and other staff to reflect fundraising progress toward goal. Partner with Finance in ongoing assessment against finance reports and program budgets to ensure alignment. Management areas include:

  • Manage projections and opportunity in the constituent management system.
  • Monitor the team and fundraiser activity goals and metrics and advise on course corrections as needed, ensuring effective portfolio management per established TNC standards.
  • Oversee the biannual portfolio review with monthly review of solicitations and progress to goal.
  • Oversee the annual goal-setting process and progress to goal.
  • Manage proposal tracking and gift allocation to focus on top chapter priorities including unrestricted funds .
  • Coordinate with World Office on processes related to complex gift processing and advise chapter staff as needed; serve as back up for gift processing during peak times or other business needs.
  • Track and monitor all fundraising progress, managing production of reports for department leadership on fundraising results.
  • Serve as the private funds lead for the department, which entails management of processes related to soliciting and tracking donor funds in accordance with best practices and SOPs and partnering with finance in providing guidance to fundraisers, gift coders, and others who play a role in soliciting and managing donor funds.

3. Data Management: (25%)

  • Lead development operations for the business unit.
  • Serve as the lead liaison with development operations staff across TNC.
  • Develop and implement consistent data processes to ensure holistic representation of activity.
  • Manage projections and opportunities toward fundraising goals.
  • Manage and update philanthropy shared resource structure to ensure access in Teams, Box, and other platforms.
  • Utilize WO resources, other business units, TNC resources and other data tools to assess progress against TNC-wide benchmarks and provide strategic input for team planning, strategies and financial goals.
  • Gain full understanding of new Power BI reports and functionality and Philanthropy Performance Indicators, advising on best practices to ensure alignment in data entry.
  • Ensure chapter database management aligns with Microsoft Power BI metrics and reporting.
  • Additional duties to enhance the work of the team, and such duties may include, but are not limited to, leading training initiatives, developing documentation, and enhancing the systems and tools used by the team and provide advice, recommendations, and training related to the functional area of the team.

4. Professional Development, Administration, and Supervision: (15%)

  • Manage performance of direct report (Development Specialist) through development of objectives and performance evaluation against objectives, TNC Competencies., etc. The DOM must also be proficient in these areas performed by the Development Specialist to serve as backup as needed: processing related to gift processing, gift acknowledgements and providing assistance with other development operations duties as determined to support major gift fundraising and department operations.
    • Complete all areas of responsibility accurately and in a timely manner (such as expense reports, timecards, performance reviews, required reports, etc.).
    • Further people management skills per TNC requirements through ongoing professional development opportunities.
    • Serve on internal committees and working groups to ensure continuous learning and sharing of best practices.
    • Other duties as required.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years' related experience or equivalent combination.
  • Experience:
    • Generating reports and analyzing and interpreting the data.
    • Negotiating agreements.
    • With current technology in relevant field.
    • Working with cross-functional teams.
    • Coursework or other training in principles and practices of relevant field.
    • Working with computers and related software, such as Windows, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel and Word), Box, Adobe Suite, web, Constituent Database (Blackbaud product preferred), browsers and internet research.
  • Youth certified (completes TNC training within initial 30 days of employment; annually thereafter)

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Multi-lingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience are appreciated.
  • Ability to work in partnership with others in a collaborative or advisory role.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to conceive and write creatively for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Experience developing, managing, and implementing goals, plans, and complex processes.
  • Expert in current and evolving technology related to donor communications.
  • Expert knowledge of current and evolving communications trends, preferably in a nonprofit environment.
  • Proficient in interpreting guidelines and manipulating, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Successful experience managing and implementing strategic program goals.
  • Superior planning and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with visual storytelling and/or design best practices.
  • Understanding of accounting practices.

SALARY INFORMATION

The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $70,900 - $86,310 (Phoenix based; may differ for other geographic locations) for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA. Where a successful candidate's actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including, for example, the candidate's location, qualifications, specific skills, experience and equty with current employees. Please note countries outside the USA would have a different pay range in the local currency based on the local labor market, and not tied to USA pay or ranges. Your geographic location will be confirmed during the recruitment.
