Summary:
The Clinical Exercise Physiologist works in the application of physical activity and behavioral interventions for chronic diseases and health conditions that have been shown to provide therapeutic and/or functional benefit. The Clinical Exercise Physiologist provides primary and secondary prevention and rehabilitative strategies designed to improve physical fitness and health in population ranging across the lifespan. Will also assist the program manager with special projects aimed to enhance cardiopulmonary rehabilitation service line delivery and growth.
Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the exercise prescription process for all patients by evaluating the appropriateness of all prescriptions and making modifications to achieve exercise training goals.
2. Provides patient education by teaching a variety of educational classes relating to risk factor reduction and lifestyle modification behaviors.
3. Works on departmental performance improvement projects as assigned. Maintains appropriate databases for program outcome reporting.
4. Contributes to program growth by active participation in the NCCRA (North Carolina Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Association).
5. Facilitates needed changes in policies, procedures and protocols.
6. Assists in quality assessment and improvement strategies for program services and functions.
7. Demonstrates support and utilization of relevant research by remaining current with the knowledge base through the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation, the American College of Sports Medicine, and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid policies and procedures for cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
8. Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.
9. Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
10. Participates in performance improvement activities.
11. Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.
12. Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
13. Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education
Master’s degree in exercise physiology, exercise or movement science, or kinesiology from an accredited college required.
Licensure/Certification
Certified as an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist (RCEP). BCLS certification required; recertification required bi-annually. ACLS certification is required (must be obtained within one year of hire date).
Experience
Two years experience in health care, clinical exercise testing, and/or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation setting, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Good interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
Valid NC Driver’s License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
