Job Summary

The MBTA's Operations Training School is responsible for training all Bus, Light Rail and Heavy Rail staff to ensure that they can operate vehicles safely, as well as follow all relevant policies and procedures. The Training School is looking for a Classroom Instructor that can lead classroom training components of various required trainings such as Right of Way certifications, Commercial Learners Permit training, Initial certification, and recertification of Light Rail Motorpersons, Bus Operators and Heavy Rail Motorpersons, onboarding new hires etc.
We desire candidates with experience delivering high quality in-person learning experiences.

Duties & Responsibilities

* Deliver existing classroom training programs in an engaging and effective manner.
* Make lesson plans that describe how information will be presented.
* Give lectures and organizing activities to present material and deepen understanding of coursework.
* May conduct classroom teaching with existing Instructors.
* Writing, administering and grading examinations that test students' knowledge.
* Answering students' questions and providing support to help them succeed.
* Recording students' attendance and grades
* Work with key stakeholders across the organization to lead and track to completion a variety of learning and development projects.
* Assess training needs and evaluate the effectiveness of training.
* Conduct meetings, discussions, and outreach to stake holders and subject matter experts to move training initiatives to completion.
* Compile and report on the implementation and impact of training programs.
* Set and maintain quality standards for all training initiatives to ensure consistency and effectiveness of training materials. Including but not limited to: style, formatting, design and, organization.
* Act as the point of escalation to troubleshoot educational technology related errors.
* Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner consistent with the Authority's Customer Service quality standard.
* Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees.
* Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreement (if applicable) and policies of the Authority including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment and Anti-Retaliation policies.
* Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned.

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

* Six (6) years' experience in roles that directly focus on the technical/skills development of adult learners.
* Four (4) years' experience of classroom instruction, delivering engaging and effective training for a variety of learners to drive high level organization goals.
* Strong organizational skills
* Ability to accomplish multiple tasks through effective prioritization in a fast-paced environment and work with a high level of independence.
* Ability to work with all levels of an organization and offer a high level of customer service and
communication to properly focus training development.
* Experience engaging subject matter experts to create effective training.
* Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills, including ability to present complex concepts clearly and effectively.
* Ability to effectively communicate including correct use of grammar, spelling, sentence structure, word meaning, and punctuation.
* Ability to effectively facilitate classroom and remote training delivery when necessary.
* The ability to effectively communicate with customers, employees, and vendors.
* Excellent customer service and presentation skills.
* The ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce.

Minimum Education
* Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution

Preferred Experience and Skills
* Five (5) years' experience designing and developing eLearning and training programs.
* Experience in distance learning and/or video production highly desirable
* Experience with an organization level LMS (Learning management system); including building and assigning roles and maintaining profiles.  

Substitutions Include

* A High School Diploma or GED with an additional seven (7) years of directly related experience substitutes
for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
* An Associate's degree from an accredited institution an additional three (3) years of directly related
experience substitutes for the Bachelor's degree requirement.
* A Master's degree in a related subject substitute for two (2) years of general experience.
* A nationally recognized certification, or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience.

  • Ability to pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check, comprehensive background screening, and medical Clinic screening, potentially including a physical examination and drug and alcohol screenings
  • Ability to work all shifts and / or locations assigned, directed, or necessary for this position, including (for some transit / operations roles) up to twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week as necessary to accommodate severe weather conditions, emergencies, or any other circumstances that may potentially impact service or the safety of service
