Full Job Description

Sterling Medical is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant CMA to become part of our team, working with the U.S. Coast Guard in Ketchikan, AK

Competitive Pay: $28.58/hr.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, (Day Shift)

Qualifications:

  • CMA certification or diploma
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working as CMA during the past 36 months
  • BLS
  • US Citizenship

Responsibilities:

  • Assess patients needs for CMA/MA care, plans for Medical interventions, assess the effectiveness of the interventions and alters the Medical plan and interventions appropriately
  • Administers oxygen, subcutaneous and intra-muscular medication
  • Prepares patients for surgical and or diagnostic procedures
  • Prepares, operates, and monitors specialized equipment such as cardiac monitors, defibrillators, etc.
  • Inventory medicine and drug stocks to ensure adequate supplies and controls
  • Provide immediate evaluation and management of emergent problems as they occur in addition to regular scheduled appointments
  • Greets and receives patients to the clinic and discreetly ascertains the nature of their illness or condition and direct them to appropriate care
  • Responds to request for routine non-medical information such as duty status
  • Receives and screen phone calls
  • Files and maintains Healthcare records
  • Files health care reports in health records
  • Maintains Health Record checkout file
  • Inputs daily patient information into the Coast Guard Healthcare Information Systems
  • Required to use all Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc. to track, data, generate reports, and prepare presentations.
  • Reviews and routes incoming correspondence
  • Schedules and tracks consultations for specialty care
  • Maintains referral log and notifies patients of appointments
  • Reviews and verifies patient eligibility for care in accordance with Defense Eligibility Enrollment Reporting System (DEERS) computer system guidelines
  • The CMA/MA performance will be monitored through a joint function of the Health, Safety, Work-Life Service Center (HSWL SC) Quality Improvement process and the contractual demand for services. CMA/MA productivity is expected to be comparable to that of other medical department staff assigned to the same facility authorized the same scope of duties
  • Provide instruction to clinic staff on an ad hoc basis;
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation as specified in applicable regulations.
