Summary:
Responsible for scheduling patients for diagnostic tests and procedures as ordered by referring physicians. Responsible for informing patient and/or physician staff of proper preparation and instructions for tests ordered, and any pre-certs they need to acquire. Responsible for verification of orders for all appointments scheduled. Must maintain effective communication with physician offices and ancillary departments with the hospital.
Responsibilities:
- Scheduling Competency Skills Assessment
- Communicates effectively with external customers over the telephone.
- Efficient and accurate keyboard usage
- Processes requests for appointments
- Uses good judgement in determining the type and location of requested appointment
- Collaborates with clinical staff to accommodate appointment requests.
- Obtains physician order for appointment/ procedure as necessary
- Coordinate special tests with Radiologist availability schedule
- Create a visit in the billing system in conjunction to the scheduled appointment
- Reschedule or cancel appointments as requested
- Perform medical necessity screening on all Medicare Patients
- Accurately and completely complete the "Accept" format as designed by the clinical department for each appointment type
- Notify caller of any scheduling "preparations" attached to each appointment type as designed by the clinical department.
- Processes faxes received either by external fax or fax software (Proficient)
- Accurate use of medical terminology
Other information:
- Certified Healthcare Assess Associate from National Association of Healthcare Assess Managers (NAHAM) preferred
- 2 years of experience in Healthcare/Medical - Medical Secretary Knowledge of medical / imaging terminology Telephone experience required.
- Significant computer experience required Working knowledge of hospital scheduling system preferred.
- Customer Service experience required.
