A Brief Overview
Reporting to the Senior Director of the Cardiac Center Service Line, this role will lead aspects of the financial oversight - specifically as it pertains to revenue integrity, opportunities for increased revenue, processes to minimize 3rd party denials, underpayments, partial payments, and reduction of accounts receivable. The major responsibility will be to work with the clinical teams and the CHOP Finance teams to integrate effective measures to maximize revenue in all Cardiac Center Hospital Revenue Producing Cost Centers including but not limited to, inpatient units, Cardiac ORs, Cardiac Cath Lab, Cardiac Imaging and OP Cardiology. The role will have a matrix dotted line reporting to the Cardiac Senior Nursing Director. This role will provide guidance and input on training and compliance needs, and serve as a central resource for all department staff. The role requires a combination of cardiac related clinical knowledge and financial acumen.

What you will do

  • Revenue Management for the Service Line
  • Provide direction and leadership to clinical and support teams to maximize revenue throughout the Cardiac Center
  • Continually review processes to ensure opportunities are maximized including:
  • o Work with revenue and internal auditing team to developing processes to ensure clinical documentation supports the level of care being billed for and is in compliance with CHOP and required government and 3rd party standards
  • o Develop systems for pre-identifying patients in the CICU who may be approaching needing lower levels of care and not yet transferred. Institute communication strategies with clinical leaders for awareness and if clinically appropriate potential transfer opportunities.
  • o Ensure systems are in place for continuous capture of all procedure supplies for COIC cases.
  • o Work with Clinical Operations and Care Coordination Teams to ensure maximum capture of potential care needed pre-admission or procedure - to minimize denials and improve integrity of Single Case Agreements
  • o Provide support and guidance for documentation needed for 3rd Party Appeals to the CHOP Revenue and 3rd Party Contracting Team as needed.
  • Financial Management Operations for the Service Line
  • Serve as liaison to Operations and our strategic partners.
  • Work with operations and clinical teams to continually focus on throughput and length of stay issues to minimize revenue losses associated with delays in care and/or discharge.
  • Oversee key projects focused on operations improvements directed at improved revenue realization. Lead committees and teams in specific parts of the Cardiac Center as required.
  • Educate clinical personnel and support personnel related to revenue optimization, financial stewardship and policies/procedures related to revenue capture.
  • Provide monthly updates on Core activity to leadership.
  • Oversee the creation of reports related to all revenue loss including denials of payment, reduced payment, opportunities to improve operations and potential impact on net revenue.
  • Provide administrative leadership and support.
  • Provide administrative leadership and oversight to faculty and staff.
  • Function as the expert for all aspects of the financial administration infrastructure supporting financial administration queries/issues.
  • Provide assistance in the recruitment and onboarding of new staff.
  • Provide routine updates to the Cardiac Center Executive Committee as requested.
  • Financial Management/Financial Stewardship/Budgeting
  • In coordination with Supply Chain and Department leaders, provide oversight of the financial management of Cardiac Center vendor contracts in compliance with hospital policies, project deliverables and regulations.
  • Work with department leaders on equipment service agreements, new acquisitions, and maintenance needs.
  • Review and approve purchases as necessary.
  • Document Financial Stewardship accomplishments and potential opportunities.
  • Advise department leaders regarding cost savings and enhanced revenue opportunities and provide support to bring to realization
  • Communications
  • Provide ongoing feedback and communication regarding financial performance to benchmarks.
  • Participate in key committees including but not limited to, Cardiac Center Executive Operations Committee, Cardiac Center Operations Team, COIC Steering Committee and report out as required.
  • Staff Development
  • Encourage and create opportunities for staff to attend/present at regional, national, and international conferences and meetings.
  • Serve as liaison to Internal Audit, Revenue Integrity and other units as necessary.
  • Develop metrics and present reports and on staff development and productivity.
  • Ensure resources are available to support key functions impacting financial performance and communicate with Senior Leadership if needed to address resource concerns.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree In Healthcare Related Field - Required
  • Master's Degree In Healthcare Management Related Field - Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least seven (7) years Clinical experience - Required
  • At least two (2) years of resource management, project management and coordination experience - Required
  • At least one (1) year of leadership, management or supervisory experience in a clinical or academic environment - Required
  • At least one (1) year of financial management experience - Required
  • Cardiac Care experience - Preferred

  • Intermediate proficiency with office software (Microsoft Office) including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Advanced knowledge of the strategic and execution aspects of clinical and/or translational research
  • Fundamental knowledge of the grant submission process
  • Fundamental knowledge of the faculty appointment process
  • Fundamental knowledge of research, research protocols, etc. (medical school & NIH)
