Summary

Under the general supervision of a Disability Determination Bureau (DDB) Supervisor, this position provides bilingual support and customer service for disability applicants and DDB staff by answering incoming and making outgoing calls in both English and Spanish. The role includes translating written medical documents and forms from Spanish to English, and facilitating verbal communication in both languages for phone calls and voicemail messages. Documentation is completed electronically in English. The position may also greet and direct in-person visitors, sort and scan incoming documents, and provide clerical support for the Operations Section and Unit Supervisor. This is an onsite position at 1400 E Washington Ave, Madison WI, and will require 5 days a week attendance.

Your role in our mission

  • Translate medical documentation and application forms from Spanish to English for accurate processing.
  • Perform extensive phone work in both English and Spanish to gather necessary information from claimants and medical professionals.
  • Accurately document case information electronically and manage document scanning into claims.
  • Assist with administrative tasks, including sorting mail, greeting visitors, and supporting the Operations Section.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws by resolving discrepancies and processing insufficient documentation.

What we're looking for

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish, with the ability to translate written and verbal communication.
  • Basic or better knowledge of medical terminology in both languages, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong phone and communication skills, with attention to detail in data entry and case documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and the ability to learn proprietary systems quickly.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with professionalism and integrity, and meet physical requirements (lift/carry 10 lbs).

What you should expect in this role

  • This is a permanent onsite position, requiring your presence at 1400 E Washington Ave, Madison WI for five days a week.
  • You will be working closely with disability examiners, claimants, and medical professionals, providing critical support in the adjudication process.
  • Training will be provided on proprietary software and on technical medical terminology as it applies to your role.

The pay range for this position is $35,000 - $50,000 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
