The Department of Visual and Media Arts (VMA) at Emerson College invites
applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in screenwriting. The appointment begins August 21, 2025 with a mandatory 2-day orientation August 21 & 22, 2025.

The Department of Visual and Media Arts (VMA) is a vibrant and engaged community of artists, scholars, and professionals, with over 100 full- and part-time faculty members, 1700 undergraduate students, and more than 100 MFA graduate students. The department offers general education courses in art history, a BA degree that includes tracks in either media studies or media production, a BFA in media production, an international BFA in Film Art with the Paris College of Art, a low-residency MFA in writing for film and television, and an MFA in film and media art.

Qualifications:

Candidates with an MFA, terminal degree in screenwriting or a related field are preferred, though candidates with extensive professional credits will be considered. Successful candidates should have substantial experience in one or more of the following:

  • Writing fiction narratives (short- and long-form film and/or TV )

  • Nonfiction

  • Experimental media

  • Writing for video games

  • Emerging media

Candidates should have teaching experience and be capable of teaching effectively across the undergraduate and the graduate curriculum. Applicants should demonstrate the ability to work productively with faculty, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds. This position requires a commitment to teaching and service at Emerson's main Boston campus.
