SUMMARY

Provide support to the RESTC Director. Assist in the management, operation, industry compliance, and accreditation of the RESTC and programs. Major responsibilities include marketing, scheduling, billing and invoicing for the industrial fire training program. National accreditation for the Fire Protection Technology and Public Safety Administration Degrees is a primary focus. Assist to hire, supervise, and evaluate instructors. The position is comprehensively involved with the processes and operation to the facilities and equipment to provide a succession of knowledge in the future.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in the management, operation, industry compliance, and accreditation of the RESTC and programs.
- Assist in coordinating the activities of the RESTC, the Fire/Rescue Training program, and Fire Protection Technology that includes staffing, supplies, budgeting, and scheduling.
- Coordinate major schools and activities of the RESTC such as NC State FF Survival School.
- Ascertain current information regarding changes in North Carolina Fire/Rescue Commission Training regulations, requirements, and procedures, and make program modifications accordingly.
- Coordinate the scheduling and operations of the RESTC primarily those associated with industrial fire training; assist to determine the need to requisition equipment and supplies of the RESTC.
- Assist the Director in establishing, implementing, and maintaining operating procedures, equipment, and facilities of the RESTC.
- Develop materials and procedures needed in order to maintain National accreditation for the Fire Protection Technology Degree.
- Establish partnerships with area fire departments to provide lodging for Fire Protection Technology Students
- Develop personal knowledge and understanding of the National Fire Protection Association’s standards, particularly those which regulate fire training centers, live burns, firefighter safety, and any materials and fuels used at training center and implement same.
- Develop personal knowledge and understanding of OSHA regulations and ensure RESTC compliance.
- Develop personal knowledge and understanding of building construction, specifically the stress of heat on concrete structures, and initiate inspections to ensure building integrity.
- Assist in managing maintenance and repair of the RESTC and its surrounding grounds.
- Determine and assign qualified instructors and/or support staff as necessary for training exercises located at the RESTC. Calculate industrial cost based on material usage of the approved fee structure of the RESTC.
- Support the Director’s function of advisor to all Fire Protection technology students by helping to evaluate student transcripts to determine transfer credits to Fire Protection Technology where applicable.
- Act as secondary supervisor to departmental employees, all instructors, and RESTC operations assistants in the absence of the Director.
- Attend local, regional, and state training meetings relative to any fire rescue program offerings. Attend regional, state and national conferences to market and promote the RESTC Industrial programs and maintain program accreditation.
- Maintain current knowledge in fire rescue regulations, practices, and instructional methods through professional development and involvement.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Certified Fire Instructor level II, level III preferred.
- Qualified in Firefighter certification and live fire qualification required.
- Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Five to ten years experience in fire-rescue training, industrial fire training, or in other advanced emergency services formal education delivery required.
- Minimum of five years in fire or emergency services management required.
- Graduation or experience and knowledge in the delivery of Fire Protection Tech preferred.
- Experience in emergency training center operations, standards/compliances/restrictions, and functions is preferred.
- Experience in event planning and organization is advantageous.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Generally, works in a traditional climate-controlled office environment and requires the ability to sit for extended periods.
- Some walking, standing, and bending required, with the ability to lift and maneuver items weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Work environment can be stressful at times in dealing with a wide variety of challenges and deadlines.
- In addition to regular office hours, position sometimes requires overtime and/or evening hours.
