Would you like to help protect the health and well-being of Californians while working as part of a highly collegial and collaborative legal team?  Do you set high standards for yourself and enjoy working on challenging questions of law and policy?

The CDPH Office of Legal Services is seeking an Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel, to join and help supervise a team of attorneys and paralegals committed to protecting our State's most vulnerable residents by ensuring, among other things, that long-term care residents receive the treatment and care required by law; that patients admitted to a hospital receive care that complies with the licensing requirements; and that businesses licensed by the Department to provide care in a patient’s home are qualified to provide the care needed.

Under the general direction of the Assistant Chief Counsel (ACC) (CEA), the Attorney, Assistant Chief Counsel (ACC) on the Office of Legal Services (OLS) Center for Health Care Quality (CHCQ) Team supports CHCQ, the single largest program within CDPH. CHCQ licenses and regulates 30 different health care facility types and various health care professional types throughout the state to ensure quality care and protect California’s most vulnerable residents.

In addition to mentoring, training, and supervising staff, the Attorney, ACC provides legal advice and assistance directly to CHCQ program staff and executives, the ACC CEA, the Chief Counsel, the CDPH Directorate, the California Health and Human Services Agency, the Governor’s Office, and other state entities relating to sensitive and/or controversial issues regarding CHCQ programs. The Attorney, ACC responds to CHCQ program inquiries from legislators and legislative committees that involve issues of law. The Attorney, ACC also assists in litigation strategy and defense in coordination with the Attorney General's Office or other outside counsel.  The Attorney ACC may make presentations to CDPH staff or other audiences regarding issues arising from the Department's legal work.
