Full Job Description

Maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles ledger accounts to the general ledger. Prepares complex balance sheets, profit and loss statements and other financial reports. Analyzes current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses.

Contributes to moderately complex aspects of a project. Work is generally independent and collaborative in nature.

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Responsible for accounts payable external reporting requirements.
• Maintains procedure manual and complies with current policy.
• Assists in requests from internal and external auditors in the completion of the annual financial audit and in any state Department of Insurance examinations or inquiries.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with state Departments of Insurance and National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). Stays abreast of state reporting requirements.
• Maintains current procedures manual and a master checklist of the required financial-related filings.
• Determines daily cash needs for area of review. Reviews cleared checks and wire transfers. Calculates and requests OPM Letter of Credit drawdown. Records monthly adjusting journal entries to reflect LOC activity. Notifies Accounting Supervisor of potential cash shortages.
• Responsible for reconciling all monthly bank statements for area of responsibility.
• Initiates wire transfers and ACH transactions
• Provides guidance and backup to Accounting Technician.

REQUIREMENTS
• Requires a Bachelor's degree.
• Requires 2 to 5 years of related experience or 1 to 3 years of public accounting experience.
• Requires effective verbal and written communications skills.
• Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Requires knowledge of software products that support specialized Accounting function

Must reside in Kansas City Metro for occasional onsite visits.

  • Must have the ability to provide a non-cellular High Speed Internet Service such as Fiber, DSL, or cable Modems for a home office.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 30x5 (30mpbs download x 5mpbs upload) is required.
  • Latency (ping) response time lower than 80 ms
  • Hotspots, satellite and wireless internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. GEHA considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

The annual base salary range for this position is $56,008 - $78,952 USD.
