Apprentice HVAC & R

The HVAC & R Apprentice will provide maintenance supporting vaccine process equipment operations. This role is part of the departmental vision that will provide for continuous improvement in all aspects of the operation. Must be able to function in a team-based empowered culture. Seeks ideas and information on how to improve customer service involving internal and external customers. Applies knowledge gained in the apprentice training program to efficiently complete work tasks.

HVAC Skills Concentration

A general knowledge in the industrial HVAC & R environment is preferred.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow instructions for completion of job tasks.

  • Supports the team that repairs and maintains all vaccine process equipment to include air handlers, hot water skids, refrigerators, freezers, ultra low freezers, incubators, etc.

  • Supports preventative maintenance inspections.

  • Must be compliant with current good manufacturing procedures(cGMP), safety and environmentalrequirements/regulations/guidelines.

  • Effective communication both written and verbal.

  • Ensure maintenance records (i.e., Work Orders, PMs) are maintained and completed on-time.

  • Position requires aseptic gowning during performance of job duties.

  • Ability to communicate and work in a highly effective team environment.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and advance several tasks in parallel.

  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude.

  • Proficient in the use of general hand and power tools, instruments and testing apparatus common to the electronic and instrumentation fields.

  • Participates in the establishment and improvement of new and existing process support equipment.

Education Minimum Requirement:

  • HS Diploma or GED

Preferred Experience and Skills:

  • Proficiency in the use and knowledge of PCs (Hardware & Software) including Microsoft Windows platform.

  • BAS, HVAC and instrumentation troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent documentation and verbal communication skills.

  • Must possess the ability to work effectively with peers and display strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of industrial HVAC and building automation systems.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to lift fifty (50) lbs, climb ladders and stairs, work on platforms and equipment above floor level. Walking, bending, crawling, stooping is required.

  • Required to wear personal protective equipment including safety glasses, safety shoes, earplugs, gloves, hard hats, safety harnesses, etc.

Completion of or enrollment in the Refrigeration & Air Condition Mechanic (Refrigeration Maintenance) Program at Alamance or Durham Community College prior to commencement of employment in the position. Proof of enrollment or completion may be required.
