The Team
We are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s Compliance team. This team ensures the appropriate level of environmental review is completed to address the FCC’s National Environmental Policy Act’s (“NEPA”) compliance requirements and the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act’s (“CERCLA”) due diligence considerations for wireless facility development and redevelopment. Day to day you will evaluate a range of standard and complex wireless facility projects to determine the appropriate environmental compliance documentation requirements. You will collaborate with consultants who perform field assessment services and consult with various agencies, provide technical support to Regulatory Compliance Coordinators working on standard wireless facility projects that progress to advanced environmental investigation, and play a key role in developing training for all internal project teams. As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will partner cross-functionally to ensure the proper evaluation of project activity, pacing of consultant services, and compliance documentation. You will drive success with external customers by providing the highest level of environmental compliance customer support.
What You Can Offer Us
- Evaluate standard and complex wireless facility projects for compliance with NEPA rules and adherence to CERCLA’s due diligence standards.
- Order and monitor consultants’ services for non-standard wireless facility projects, ensuring deliverables are on schedule and meet quality expectations.
- Evaluate advanced investigation scopes, coordinating with the Compliance management team on proposals exceeding specific scope and cost thresholds.
- Prepare permit applications and mitigation documentation in close coordination with expert environmental consultants.
- Process advanced compliance information and documentation requests from project teams and customers.
- Assist the Compliance management team with preparing responses to inquiries from governmental agencies.
- Develop and deliver project-focused regulatory process and systems training for Regulatory team members and other internal departments.
- Contribute to monthly team meetings focused on project review trends, environmental services trends, cross-functional training needs, and customer service best practices.
- Maintain excellent working relationships with project teams and environmental consultants to move projects through the environmental process.
- Other duties as assigned.
What You Need to Succeed
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Policy, Government, Planning, Environmental Science, or a similar field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an Environmental Compliance Coordinator or similar position required.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations applicable to wireless telecommunication facilities preferred.
- Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.
- Strong follow-up skills: ability to organize applicable timelines and follow up with internal and external customer needs.
- Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.
- Strong organizational skills: ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.
