National Grid is hiring an In-House Commercial Litigator for our General Counsel. This position will be located in our Brooklyn, NY office with hybrid working.
Job Purpose
To be responsible for representing the business and providing expert professional legal advice and guidance to the business in order to support the business in achieving its objectives, mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
Key Accountabilities
* Provide advice and counsel to various business units regarding state and federal laws and on various litigation-related issues
* Oversee litigated matters and internal investigations, including issuing legal holds, conducting witness interviews, preparing for depositions, gathering documents and managing outside counsel
* Negotiate and prepare settlement agreements
* Provide training to various business units
* Respond to subpoenas and other requests for information from third-parties and advise on any potential legal issues
* Manage and oversee outside counsel, including setting litigation strategy, efficiently controlling outside counsel costs and fees, and advising the various business units on strategy and mitigation of risks
* Provide advice and counsel on all issues relating to the potential litigation or litigation
* Work collaboratively with various business units, in-house lawyers and outside counsel
Qualifications
* J.D. from an accredited college or university
* Member of the New York Bar with 5-10 years of commercial and business litigation experience
* Experience in representing clients in all types of litigation including claims related to commercial contractual disputes, insurance coverage, real estate, class actions, and regulatory issues
* Experience with internal investigations and government investigations and subpoenas
* Experience with electronic discovery
* Experience with settlement negotiations, mediation and arbitration
* Solid written and oral communication skills
* Ability to work with all levels within the organization

Salary
$211k - $248k a year
